Our D&D game took an unexpected turn when the cleric was devoured and absorbed by the gibbering mouther I thought the party could h andle. The humiliation - the permanence. No escape once you become just another screaming mouth and eyes on its sides

Hardly unexpected. Some fools just aren't fit for handling monsters. But they are fit for being eaten by them~
