Zelda’s Diary — Trip Day 4 Entry 2

The debate over where we would travel to settled with us heading to the Snow Kingdom. As we geared up to head out into the much colder climate, I was once again reminded of how plump my belly is starting to get. I really should start watching what I eat on this trip, but sampling cuisine at every kingdom was the whole reason for it originally! I can’t help but try some at every stop. I guess I could try to find some time to exercise more.

Anyway, the Snow Kingdom certainly lived up to its reputation. It was coated in snow and colder than most places in Hyrule other than some of the mountain peaks. Fortunately, a quick trip down an ice well led us into the settlement of Shiveria, which was much warmer. Peach believes that the main attraction of the kingdom, the Bound Bowl Grand Prix, somehow generates the heat that keeps this part of the kingdom warmer. After watching one of the races, I’m not quite certain how that would work.

It’s also possible they use Power Moons to do so. My, uh, own experience ingesting one tells me that they do generate heat. At first, our attempts to acquire some local cuisine did not go so well, as the local shopkeeper for shaved ice seemed uninterested in sharing his goods with anyone but himself. I was hoping that might be our cuisine given my weight concerns, but we had to watch the race with empty stomachs.

Peach really wanted to try the cake anyway, since it was cake she or her Toads hadn’t made. After the race, we tracked down the champion to ask for some of the cake he’d won. He wasn’t interested in sharing though… In fact, he made fun of the extra weight on my middle! Who does that?! I felt so ashamed in the moment, but Peach took matters into her own hands. While she did, I gave into temptation and tried the cake. It wasn’t a fruitcake, but it is still one of the best cakes I’ve ever eaten.

The cake was massive too. I was able to tunnel through it. When I popped on the other side though, I found that Peach had decided to eat the champion for not sharing and being rude to me. I appreciate her looking out for me, but I was cross with her in the moment for eating a civilian who was not willing. Fortunately, she had one of the 1-Ups like our meals at the club had taken, so she gave that to the Shiverian.

Since I was still in a sugary haze at the time, I decided to challenge her to a cake eating duel. I guess I can take some pride in saying I won, though Peach tapped out early because of her other meal. Once I came down from my craving, however, I realized that eating that much cake was not going to help my weight worries in the slightest…
