A string of disappearances from the village, strange noises in the woods, and ominous carvings appearing in the trees. All signs of the apocalypse to some, but linked together for you. Using your trusty torch and sharpened sword, you are determined to keep the locals safe from this creature. Some think it's a shape shifting monster, others a demon, still others a succubus. Few now remain, having been scared far away by all this.
 The cold, dark winter weather dulls your senses and gives you goosebumps, but you press on. For if not done now, the whole village won't last much longer. You follow the carvings "STAY OUT" "DANGER" and so on repeated several times, plus menacing faces with toothy grins carved on to totem poles. Rustling in the few evergreen trees makes you uneasy, although when you hear hooting you determine its just an owl flitting through the trees. You notice a new carving, plus distinctive claw marks, on another nearby tree. This one is slower to read from its size, but you can clearly make out:
"Are you scared, HOOMAN"
 The unusual spelling is followed by another one of those odd grins. You cautiously back away, not wanting to go in over your depth...you hear rustling again, and place a hand on the hilt of your longsword. Suddenly you hear an unpleasant crunch. Pointing the torch down, you notice it is no twig...but rather, several mangled and unrecognisable bones, far too large to be anything other than human, and mingled with scraps of clothing. It's like a giant owl pellet. You hear a thud, and look up, bearing your torch. You draw the sword with your free hand. Through the smoke and illuminated by torchlight shows a pair of threatening yellow eyes, which get closer and closer...
 "Hello~" comes a dainty female voice, "looks like you're just in time for dinner~" a brown-haired harpy girl, a good deal taller than you, swaggers confidently over towards you, grinning and licking her lips. You've found what you were looking for, at least- those claws could clearly mark the branches of trees, and if she's a man eater that explains the bones. You point the sword at her and demand she answers for her crimes, though you have to try very hard to avoid trembling in fear at this half-giant harpy. Her massive wings end in lethal claws that could tear you in half.
She giggles at your attempts to intimidate her, and effortlessly pulls away your sword. She casts it into the undergrowth out of sight and moves to pin you. "If you're looking for everyone else, they're right here" she says, clutching her slightly bulged gut, "have a listen~" the girl drags you headfirst into her stomach area, and you are treated with an earful of groans, cracks and gurgles as her gut works on her last meal. You pull away and demand to know who, or what, she is, and clutch one of your hunting knives to defend yourself.
She self identifies as "Nanashi Mumei, Guardian of Civilisation~" with a peace-sign, although the dancing movement makes her burp.
 "You know, you're just food, so I don't know why you keep playing with me~" your dagger is intercepted by her claw, which clutches your hand painfully and makes it streak with blood. You punch desperately with your free hand at her gut, causing more gas to be expelled but otherwise doing little else. "You're supposed to punch from inside, silly, are you wanting to get inside now? Okay, I won't stop you~"
"Fauna said the best way to protect civilisation was with my tummy, so in you go~" she grabs you with both arms, holding you by the shoulders, and opens wide. Her vicious fangs gleam white in the moonlight, though as a harpy she doesn't exactly chew her food. All attempts to struggle are in vain, and head first she begins to gulp you down. Her slimy throat pushes you deeper and deeper. She kneels down to get a proper grip and pushes you into her belly with ease. Gulp, gulp...a bulge shifts from her neck to her gut as you slide down, ultimately landing in her eager bottomless belly. Piles of clothing surround you along with acid that gets to work quickly. She belches and sits down, rubbing her groaning tummy....
 "This is what the *urp* warning signs were for, I hope you enjoy being food~" she rubs her gut again, whilst it churns around you. Your clothing rapidly begins to disintegrate, and you feel the acid painfully scalding your skin. You pull out the second dagger in a last ditch attempt to cut your way out. But her fleshy walls absorb the impact and the metal itself begins to bubble and dissolve. The acid continues to build up and you are starting to lose the feeling in your legs. Her stomach rolls and you end up on your back, attempting to kick and punch your way out. Your futile efforts to resist digestion are simply accelerating it, and the owl's ruthless stomach contracts to crush you. Numbness overtakes your bare skin, and the hand imprints on Mumei's belly once seen on the outside fall away as you feel limp...maniacal laughter, plus the gurgling of her tummy, is the last thing you hear...
 Mumei, satisfied and full, heads back to her roost, leaving the sword and other remains as a warning. She knows others will be back, and when they are, she'll eat them too...
