... thinking on it, I should probably put something in here right? Well, I'm pretty happy with this piece sooooo, copying the description from my deviantart (located here, not that I'm really using it any more : https://www.deviantart.com/mshadowy )

"The Popular 'Station 7' franchise of interstellar servicing stations is known for their gorgeous humanoid attendants, all certified to provide advanced maintenance across all models of standard starship engine, and for their sophisticated "customer service"; according to it's marketing these beauties are all from an unknown planet variously called "Earth" or "Terra" and communicate in a conlang called 'Terran.'

"Investigations into the origins of these organisms have all been stonewalled, and GalStar, Station 7's parent company, has issued blanket denials of any violation of the Primitive Species Exploitation Act, declaring such assertions to be "libelous" and "an accusation not only of Station 7 and GalStar, but of the entire Stellar Fueling Industry.""

Hold on… I’ve looked at some of your accounts on other sites (particularly the ones on Deviantart and Mastodon), and one thing I saw was details on how your space succubi are created from humans that were biologically re-engineered (from the point of view of someone who was going through the process), and he, now she, pointed out that they’re apparently intended to preform “dangerous menial labor”.

And in the description of this image, it says that stations like this one are staffed by a race of humanoids from a planet called Earth, and that it’s believed by many that they’re being abducted and forced into this, although there’s no proof of such.

Which leads me to ask, are the so-called “outsiders” who’re abducting people and turning them into succubi doing so to have a source of drop-dead gorgeous over glorified GAS STATION ATTENDANTS and car repair workers? Well, better than what I was afraid of (slave labor or even Warhammer 40K Servitors, but without any cybernetics).

ah, those are kinda different settings, but they have some similar core conceits; for the Station 7 thing, you've got it, but the succubi are in a rather more melodramatic setting. it would probably be fair to describe their conditions as slavery prior to escape.

the dangerous menial labor is specifically dangerous in the sense that it regularly exposes one to possible traumatic injury or death; production of whatever it is the outsiders in producing never stops, even when the machines need maintenance. it's very... 19th century, which even in universe is considered odd, and an indicator that the Outsiders have motivations that cannot be understood.

enough of them have escaped to form a sizeable population and one of the two main demographics of the Union (and mostly marginalized minorities in a couple neighboring space nations); fortunately the enigmatic space jerks don't seem to bother trying to hunt down escapee's, so at least there's that.

So it IS either slave labor or a non-cybernetic servitor. I take it no other species out there knows anything about the outsiders? Does anyone even know what they look like?

Also, what’s the other major race in the Union and why do other neighboring interstellar nation-states seem to look down on the succubi living within their borders?

Just to flag something up, I’m a sucker for worldbuilding.

The Outsiders are a complete mystery, aye; there are some who know more about them, but a lot of stuff is just guess work. It is known that they are very, very old, and speculated that they might be of extra-galactic origin. There's been some speculation that they've interfered in the evolutionary development of humans, but considering that this interference is speculated to have begun on the order of tens of millions of years before present, this is more or less impossible to prove.

The other most common species in the Union are the Tei Nuo-Boa, who are also a modified servitor species like the succubi, who may have their evolutionary process interfered with, with the most meaningful evidence for this being the fact that, despite all their very obvious biological differences, they and humans/succubi think very similarly. They somewhat resemble ferrets or foxes, possessing eight limbs in a Centaur-like configuration (two dedicated forelimbs, two interstitial forelimbs which can act as feet or hands, and four legs) and four eyes. Tei is a shortened form of "Teiyan," meaning "modified" or "altered." Unmodified Nuo-Boans have very long limbs, particularly their legs, but Tei Nuo-Boans have shorter limbs of a more uniform length. They also have generally longer fur, provided they don't keep it trimmed. Like succubi, they've been modified for more or less permanent life in micro-gravity environments.

incidentally, it was unmodified Nuo-Boans who freed the first of the succubi and Tei NB's, though this was more an accidental success; fundamentally a publicity stunt by their dominant state, the Confederation Guau-Ranth, to be seen "doing something" about missing civilians kidnapped by the Outsiders. they did not know about the succubutt's at the time, but the crews of the responding craft didn't leave them behind, creating something of a minor crisis for a nation that really didn't want this bunch of strange bipedal things (or for that matter, their altered kinsmen); as a side note, until they agreed on the moniker "succubi" for themselves, the species went by the name the CGR gave them; Tei Tua-Bao

unable to just openly get rid of them, they concocted a scheme that would put them out of sight and out of mind, shipping them out to "new homes on the frontier" which was also an unintended success, since the people who they contracted had better natures than they expected and actually helped do the work of setting up the first orbital colony, Marduk. volunteers would semi-regularly break more members of both species from their shackles, and combined with the fact that they had stable breeding populations their population got pretty sizeable, though lack of census data leaves the actual population during this period somewhat unclear.

and gosh, this getting kind long, huh?

anyway, at some point, starting ~150-135 years before present in the setting, several things happen somewhat in parallel; the space borne population of busses and TNB's start advocating for increasing autonomy and the right to manage their own affairs, pushing for radical, dangerous ideas like democracy and worker unionization, the Confeds realize that there are like, way, way more succubi and Tei Nuo-Boa than they thought, and there's a push by the CGR to invade a neighboring civilization, the Griith Commonality, due to a combination of managing a vast but industrially underdeveloped region of space, social unrest and wishful thinking.

it does not go terribly well for them; in order to collapse their defensive line down to something manageable they more or less shed the region of space the succs are in, going through the pageantry of setting up an independent Republic (which lasts all of a few hours before it's knocked over in a military coup led by one of their own Admirals, Auan-Tam, who turns it into a dictatorship, Aul Shou); relations quickly sour, mostly because Auan-Tam is kind of a nut who gets really pissed at the CGR when "his fleet" heads home to defend their homes and families, forcing him to staff his forces with "inferior races."

the CGR has kinda mixed opinions on this, but is mostly content; even if their leader's a nut, Aul-Shou is ideologically in bed with them so, eh, work with what ya got; long as they send their tithes.

spinward of this, a cluster of worlds under the banner of the CGR, and frustrated with their governments refusal to actually hold Aul-Shou's toes to the fire over breaching the charter the Confeds gave them, revolt, and due to the military situation, succeed in setting up the actual promised Republic on their own terms.

the CGR does not like this, but can't really do anything about it at the moment because they're busily trying not to lose to the Griith.

fast forward about 15 years, and the succs and Tei NB, tired of slaving under an openly hostile regime have been involved in a series of unsuccessful worker revolts, each getting put down by an increasingly unreliable military; the command directives are getting increasingly violent and irrational, the leaders are incompetent, morale is terrible; orders come down at some point to just straight up blow up an entire orbital, and the fleet mutinies, starting what is called the Three Revolutions

suffice to say, Aul-Shou does not survive this, and the Union of Syndicalist Stations and Planets forms, itself something of an uneasy alliance between various revolutionary groups.

the CGR really doesn't like this, and starts making noises like they'll do something about it, but as weird as they are the Griith recognize the utility of an alliance and threaten to attack if the CGR tries to take down the Union, setting things into a long, uneasy stalemate which, some border conflicts aside, has continued more or less since.
