Almost a year has passed since Lottie agreed to become bait for the Manticore. It wasn't all that bad; actually, Celesse was pretty cool, strong, and even dashing... When she wasn't hungry and wasn't teasing Lottie about "reuniting with her old pal in her guts" or talking in her sleep about devouring her. Aside from that one time when she was almost swallowed by a lamia, who was later swallowed by Celesse, she wasn't even in danger while being a pred bait too. With such a strong manticore, Lottie wasn't in danger at all, because any predator who was attracted by her scent almost immediately ended up in Celesse's endless stomach. So if you forget about small details like living in a cave (which is really nice and neatly decorated) and working as bait for all kinds of dangerous preds to feed an evil manticore who ate her friend a year ago and treats her as a stuffing toy that can be hugged tightly in sleep, Lottie was doing really well.

And all of this, or the fact that she got used to being around someone who could easily swallow her alive in one gulp or tear her small body into shreds with ease, made Lottie relax too much. So much so, actually, that while looking through her old belongings and finding her old costume prepared for a Halloween party, she thought out loud that then she and her friend almost made it to the party... And to her horror, Celesse heard that. Heard and decided that this year she should make it to the party for sure~
