After much careful thought and planning, here it is! The expansion of Rachel & Rebecca's ever-growing family of sharks. For over a year, I've debated how to implement the Nola children into R&R's story. Sure, this is an AU compared to the canon content, but it feels right to treat it with as much thoughtful consideration as R&R's main story (what little there is of it haha). After all, who else would write it but me?

Since the Nola Sisters are notorious criminals who serve as smugglers for the Green Gill Gang and run a "scuba diving" service as a side hustle, they have many enemies and a bounty on their heads. This makes their living situation shaky and safety is not guaranteed. Honestly, it's irresponsible for such criminals to have children, especially since they can't control how children pop out every 9 months. What's a poor eternally pregnant Spawn to do? Why, to (dump) share responsibility with everyone else in their lives!

Traditionally, Spawn live in communities of 100 to 300 individuals. Since most variants of the species are carnivorous, Spawn villages can stretch across dozens of nautical miles, such as occupying reefs, forests of sargassum, and even the frozen depths of the Moroz Sea. Typically, only a handful of Spawn mothers have children at a time, and while the underwater community is spread thin, everyone shares responsibility for childcare. Some members teach the children how to hunt, some teach them the dangers of the open ocean, and some teach them how to knit seaweed and debris into tools. The parents are still ultimately responsible for the children's wellbeing, but it's as they say: it takes a village to raise a child.

Rachel & Rebecca follow this practice to its logical extreme: they've enlisted the Green Gill Gang to raise their children. Yes, this band of bloodthirsty bruisers, cold-hearted hitmen, and all-around-crooks are dangerous, but even they can't bring themselves to hate kids. Nor can they resist Lil' Sis Rachel & Rebecca's wishes; what if they pull out the Pupfish Eyes, man? It'd break their fishy hearts to make their Lil' Sis cry!

So, while smuggling illicit goods across international waters, Rachel & Rebecca can be secure in the knowledge that their children have the strongest babysitters and deadliest teachers in the world. What's more, their kids live in safe houses across their global route; after each delivery, Rachel & Rebecca visit their children and raise them for weeks at a time. The work never ends, so the Nola Children see their twin-headed mothers about 3-5 times a year.

Of course, Rachel & Rebecca don't neglect the youngest. After each litter is born, R&R spend a solid six months raising them in the Sargassum Kelp Forest. Sarga, Queen of the Sargassum, grants the children protection in her undersea kingdom and raises them as she sees fit; the Nola Children regard her as a second mother or an aunt. Rachel, Rebecca, and Sarga don't see eye-to-eye on a lotta things, but these three agree to set aside their rivalry for the kid's sake.

Oh, and don't get things twisted: six months is a long time for a Spawn. Spawn mature into adulthood fast; a 6 month Spawn is essentially as mature as a human five-year-old. Heck, most Spawn leave their families at age 6 for the open ocean, where they can form their own villages and build new families. It's how Spawn have done things since forever, and while the modern age has changed some things, they still form long-lasting bonds with family & friends, even if they aren't related by blood. Heck, a Spawn who still lives with their parent by age 10 is considered clingy!

Are things perfect? No, of course not. Judge Rachel & Rebecca as you see fit. They do their best, but if they didn't involve themselves in the underwater underworld, they could be more present parents. This is their life, however, and they've made the best of things.

For the purposes of this artwork, only half of Rachel & Rebecca's children are present. The other three will receive focus in another piece. From counterclockwise, the children are named as such:

Mako: The first and only boy of Rachel & Rebecca's earliest pups, Mako is a loyal and dutiful son. While gifted with a gentle disposition, Mako will protect his sisters at all costs, even though they're stronger than him. Very much the sort to bite off more than he can chew, a misplaced bravery if you will. With as great fondness for plants, Mako keeps a seaweed garden. Whenever Rachel & Rebecca have a fresh batch of pups, Mako harvests the garden so his siblings have nice bundles to wrap in.

Salli: Very much a girly girl, Salli is a lighthearted airhead. She is sweet as sugar and content to casually drift through the ocean, but there's clearly not much going upstairs. This makes her a dreamer of sorts and the poet of the family. For example, while Rachel aspires to be a sultry siren, Salli can genuinely sing well and crafts new songs out of thin air. She is also a great lover of animals, and despite how easy it would be to snatch seagulls floating on the surface, she often befriends them instead.

Bronze: The baby of the family, Bronze is a total mama's boy. He clings to Rachel & Rebecca the most, and takes pride in looking the closest to their missing father... while completely oblivious how much Rachel & Rebecca resent that man for knocking them up forever. Out of his siblings, Bronze is closest to Mako as the other boy, and is the constant source of Kat's teasing. However, Bronze aspires to be big and strong someday like his mothers, and takes lessons from the Green Gill Gang to toughen himself up. He's the smallest seed out of the pups, but he'll grow into a mighty oak. Someday.

I never considered it like that, but yes. It would be a poly relationship since Rachel & Rebecca are two different people. Brass is married to twins, but only has worry about pleasing one body.

… unless we go with the original story, where R&R ate Brass after their initial encounter. I’m flexible with either version, but either way, Rachel & Rebecca wound up eternally pregnant with his kids. After giving birth, Rachel & Rebecca get a few weeks of reprieve before feeling the effects of the next, inevitable pregnancy.
