Being a teacher has really slowed Eda down a fair bit. Back in her prime, she'd never have gotten caught by the guards, but Luz isn't as good at being slippery around witch cops as she was, and she couldn't let Luz be on the hook all her own.

Luz is taking it pretty hard, but so does everyone for their first time in the Death Cages. And unless you're like Eda, you usually only get one time in them. But once the crowd dies down a bit, she'll bust them out and get Luz to a nice bath. Might be awkward for her at school for a few days though.
