Oh gosh I thought kami sounded familiar. Basically I was trying to think of a name for the race of alien ladies that Mara and Hera belonged to. Kami was the first thing that popped into my head; I had no idea it meant anything in Japanese.
However, I suppose it is strangely appropriate, being that these alien ladies are somewhat magical (growing to really tall heights, lookin' a bit like vampires and etc...)

First off, THANKS to you for being the FIRST person in the 2 years I've been on eka's who has (a) convincingly created a compelling sci-fi setting (b) WITHOUT a massive exposition dump.
Second, this story rocks. I love yoru style of not telling readers much of what the "opposing" characters are thinking, so the reader keeps guessing. Just like usual I was hooked to read 'till the end. I found myself empathizing a lot with Sam and the sexy parts were definitely more than a little frightening. Very powerful writing.
1 question: I couldn't figure out what "kami" meant. I know that it means "spirit and/or magical creature" in Japanese, but what's it refer to here? Just an alien race?
Jane stirred the
bowl, humming a song. She matched each rotation of her stirring with
the beat, smiling and looking down. She was preparing to bake
brownies; the mixture inside of the bowl was a brown so dark it was
practically black. There was another ingredient.

I haven't gotten into Homestuck so I'm not sure I can relate to the characters, but definitely good writing as usual.
