Barnacles are an interesting cross between fungus, plant and animal. Lacking any central nervous system or typical brain, it can be a very active hunter compared to other common carnivorous meat eating plants or fungi. These barnacles remain in an inactive, dormant state until sensing either vibrations or tactile touch of potential prey below. Once active, their 'tongue' wakes first to allow it to snare prey while the rest of its body slowly wakes, such as its mouth and digestive system...
