Despite being far larger than typical wild barnacles, it still struggles to claim Umi as its prey simply due to the sheer task of lifting an adult sized person to its mouth to feed. The coating on its snare tongue aids somewhat similar to snaring a small creature, but it must rely more on brute strength. Sensing Umi's body heat and movements through its snare tongue however will drive the barnacle to become more active and to invest more energy in the better chance it has caught something truly valuable.
After a few false starts and slips, it will finally secure enough of Umi's body to begin hoisting. Umi's feet leaving the ground marks the start of her transformation.
