It is a tight fit deep inside its stomach sac for its prey. Umi's body bulges and stretches the sides of the barnacle thin as it works to fully deposit her body into its stomach sac before it can finally clench shut the inner maw and create a watertight seal.
With the task of luring and capturing its prey done, the next leg of the barnacle's challenge begins by sedating its prey to prepare it for digestion. While the paralytic coating on its tongue was too weak to affect Umi while snared, deep inside here is where she will finally succumb to its intended effects.
The thick coating will begin by numbing and paralyzing the prey's extremities while seeping deep into her body. Curiously because of Umi's body mass over smaller prey, she will experience much more of the side effects of the paralytic agent on her body and mind as it takes effect. Reality wanes and becomes hazy as every sense in her body is effectively numbed and reduced to simple pleasurable sensations. At this stage the barnacle's paralytic agent has completely nullified any threat of a thrashing or struggling prey in its stomach by rendering it completely docile and paralyzed in numb pleasure.

For a barnacle, it sure has treated Umi nicely.

Its my little headcanon idea that this one was bred to be fat and gentler than the wild ones, heh~
The ones in HL1 and alyx were pretty hard and gory, but the way they ate people whole in HL2 was obviously the one that left the impression on me...
