In my old AD&D Monstertown setting, slaves were available but pretty darn expensive. They were cheaper if they had a limited contract -- instead of sending people to prison, they might impose an X year slave sentence. Cheapest of all are 'meat' slaves, who must be killed within 7 days of purchase. Presumably, since he's implying he won't eat her if she pleases him, she's not one of those. 83
