Kienna Lauacateine sat at the bottom of the deep tank, her translucent protective bubble providing active camouflage as well as recycled oxygen. All around her bubble swirled an ocean of viscous, pitch-black fluid that was rapidly pouring in from some source above.

She knew, just by her quickly memorized knowledge of the star system, that the liquid around her was a form of hydrocarbon; the humans had spent four hours so far sucking

2nd Lt. Matt Nagano entered Monitoring Room 234 to find 1st Lt. Glenda Henderson sitting there alone in the dim light, watching several floating projection screens.
