Three individuals must put up with each other on a lifeboat until help arrives. Unfortunately one of them has something different in mind, but did not plan ahead.

Good story but I really dislike digestion, and judging the time it took for Julius to overcome the drugs he could have save Higgs if he wanted to so in essence he just murdered his friend and is no better then CJ for what he did.

Thanks for the comment. When I was writing this, I think it may have played out in my head that enough time had gone by that Higgs wouldn't have had a chance. Reading over it is obvious he was a little quick to make that decision, but on the other hand I'm not entirely sure of Julius's character. He has his reservations, but I'm not sure how much eating his friend would bother him in the long run. I would say that had Higgs simply died in the lifeboat without CJ, Julius'd probably have eaten him anyway. :)

You're welcome. Again, it was well written so nothing bad at you. But yeah exactly. Not enough time went by and so in essence that part makes the whole eating scenario unrealistic. I don't know. You made it pretty adamant throughout the story that for one, Julius was a better behaved and certainly nicer person/furry, and that he did care for Higgs. So I would have to disagree on both your reservation comment and your assumption that he would have eaten him anyway.

I was saying that had it been the two of them and Higgs just died, Julius would probably have eaten him then, possibly as a gesture of respect. (As opposed to burying him at sea.) I see him as being essentially good, but still aware of his place on the food chain. So if he felt his friend was a goner, I'm not sure eating him would be as horrific for Julius as it would seem to a human in the story. And if he were angry enough at being drugged, that would probably affect his judgment.
I do see what you mean, though, and making the timing a little more obvious is probably the main thing I'd change about this one.

Ohhh I see what you're saying. If Higgs had died of starvation or something then he'd give him a respectful 'burial' thing. Yeah I have no problem with that, but what I was saying was that what you said. That Julius is pretty much good and he does care for Higgs, so had CJ not been there, or like I said, when he overcame the drugs, he could have saved him and therefore changed the story.
I also can't see that being changed. The timing. If you prolong the time, then you'd have to change how it ends, cause CJ could then just kill Julius :P and that would really ruin the story.

CJ drugged Julius, but he could have poisoned him too. Maybe he was planning to capture Julius alive, or he just didn't think that far ahead. :) On the other hand, it could also depend on how long Higgs could survive after being eaten, or how long Julius would judge this. Maybe Julius pretends the drugs are more powerful than they are, and feigns weakness for another fifteen minutes. Even if CJ were planning to kill him, there could be a false sense of security at play after incapacitating a huge liger.

Hmmm true, that may be a possibility. But as you said, Julius was still resistant to the drugs even though the timing was very short so he could have still saved him. I think he could survive enough. Or enough that Julius could save him or rip open CJ to get him out. True he could have pretended, but as I've said, fifteen minutes isn't that long so yeah :P.

I would think that if Julius started to feel the drugs wearing off a little earlier than CJ expected, he'd still be cautious about making an attack. He's sort of a security guy, so I could see him thinking it through enough to wait for the best possible moment to make his move as opposed to making things worse. If he hadn't been drugged I personally could see him going full liger on CJ and then trying to resuscitate Higgs.
As for Higgs surviving, it's kind of funny because usually I think of the opposite as more of a problem - how to justify someone staying alive for a while after being eaten. I haven't really put much thought into these characters beyond this, so I don't know what kind of chances Higgs would've had. Thinking realistically (for what little that's worth here), I could see him suffocating by then, but who knows.

Yeah but still he was bigger then him and like you just said he's a security guy so he would be trained and stuff. Even with the drugs I think he could have still did that.
Yeah I guess, though there is residual air in the stomach, especially with predators who swallow prey whole so I don't think suffocation would be an issue, and even he did run out of air, as long as Julius got to him he could try and resuscitate him. But yeah I do think that Julius was selfish and the whole ending just doesn't make sense and ruins the story.

A very interesting story.
I was surprised by the turn of events.
