Two years pass. In that time Sheila and Linda grew into a mother daughter relationship. Sheila had taken time to teach Linda how to swim, and they had developed a number of games starting with 'catch', which was inspired by Linda's fall. In addition Linda had constructed bamboo doors at the entrance of the cave to keep most of the rain out to avoid ruining her cloths, however it didn't quite block the wind and on the colder nights Linda had grown accustomed to sleeping in Sheila's maw.
One morning Linda was out on the lagoon in a canoe type of boat that she had constructed. The water was crystal clear out in the middle and She could clearly see all the coral at the bottom of the ocean floor and a vibrant array of wildlife. She could sit there staring into the water for hours. However she soon saw Sheila swimming in circles underneath her. It was a signal to start one of there games. On cue Linda began paddling as fast as she could to shore. One of the rules of the game was that when Linda started her trek back to shore, Sheila would do one lap around the atoll, before swimming back to intercept Linda, due to the fact that the girl started at about the middle of the lagoon she could set off in nearly any direction, But Linda had another trick up her sleeve. Once she had the canoe going at a descent speed toward shore she jumped out and swam at an angle away from the boat, hoping that the boat would maintain its momentum.
As Sheila finished her lap she jetted her way back into the lagoon, knowing the rules made the game in favor of her ward. She quickly spotted the canoe across the calm water near the opposite shore and sprinted toward it at best speed. When she reached the boat she quickly proceeded to tip the boat and accept her prize. To her astonishment Linda was not there. She had been duped.
Linda took a moment to look behind her to see that her boat had been tipped over, she didn't have much time. Looking around Sheila quickly spotted the girl. She was nearly to shore! Now frustrated the whale took off in the the girl's direction. As Linda was about to start running through the surf she felt something wet slam into the back of her shins, causing her to fall backwards onto the large muscle and she was engulfed in darkness.
"Mmmmm.." moaned Sheila, enjoying to girls taste. Linda chuckled as she wrestled against the large tongue. The whale then lazily started another lap around the atoll enjoying her little morsel. However before she got halfway around suddenly she was scraping against the sand bar, Sheila didnt have long to contemplate this before she found herself entirely beached as the water continued to recede. When the steady movement of Sheila's swimming stopped, Linda immediately noticed.
"Sheila? Whats going on?" Before she could ask again, suddenly the large muscle held her against the top of the whales mouth with the edges sealing her in. Not uncomfortably, but secure. It was the prelude to a tsunami. Sheila did not know how she knew what was coming. She had never before seen one, at least not that she could recall. But all she could do was to make sure Linda was as safe as possible, and brace herself for the coming wave. She closed her eyes, not wanting to see the terrible force of nature coming.
It seemed like forever before the wall of water finally slammed into her. Disoriented the great whale was tossed about the water like a rubber duck. All she Could do was to concentrate on keeping her mouth and blow hole shut to prevent from drowning the girl within her. Her vision flashed white as the pain as her side impacted trees. She felt something scrape her tail as she snagged on something. A new pain wrecked her body as the water threatened to tear her in half as the water continued to rush by and her tail remained stuck.
Then just as quickly as it started the water started to flow back into the ocean, releaving the strain on her body and allowing her to settle on the ground. Once the water was down to a trickle she opened her mouth, allowing the girl to roll out on to the soggy ground. Linda was shaken by all the violent movement and now by were she was, looked around for a moment at the carnage that was her home. Words escaped her. She simply clung Sheila's muzzle, in a loving hug that lasted several moments. Sheila was extremely exhausted from being wracked by the disaster dozing off in her daughters loving embrace.
After several minuets Linda let go of her guardian. She quickly realized that Sheila had passed out, however the whale was entirely out of the water and stuck between what was left of two palm trees. There was no way Sheila could survive being entirely out of the water for long. "Sheila! Sheila!" cried the girl. Sheila mumbled in response. It was now obvious to Linda that like her guardian had saved her life three times now, this time she would have to be the one to save the orca.
Linda went to take inventory for her supplies. She happened to be near her cave, however what she saw when she got there nearly brought her to tears. The doors she had constructed were torn apart and the vast majority of her cloths and supplies were gone, carried off by the water no doubt. She would have to scavenge for tools. Due to the fact that the whale was ten times her size. The first thing she had to do would be to some how get the water to Sheila.
Using a halved coconut shell Linda started digging a trough from the water to Sheila. Due to the fact that much of the sand and soil had been washed away, the job was easier than you might expect. However its still took the girl most of the rest of the day to dredge the sand to get the salt water to pool around Sheila. She continued to work through the rest of the night. every hour of so, Linda would keep the whale wet by climbing one of the two trees she was stuck between and would pour water from the coconut shell over as much of Sheila's body as she could manage, having to climb the tree several times to do so. Near morning, Linda had finally finished making her own shallow 'lake' around the whale. Once more she started to climb the tree when when she was about half way up (About 10 feet off the ground) the tree suddenly leaned in her direction, Linda instinctively let go of the tree and she hit the ground and rolled to the side as the tree continued to fall to the ground. At first she was baffled, 'Why would the tree just fall over like that' she thought. On closer inspection
she saw that what soil it was rooted in was very sandy which had now been saturated by her small lake, loosening the roots. Linda then ran to the other tree, climbed it and started rocking it back and forth, until it's roots gave out too. With a jump Linda landed on Sheilas back before the tree fell to the whale's side. This of course woke Sheila.
"Huh? what? Linda?" mumbled the whale.
'Don't worry." yelled the girl as she slid off Sheilas back. "You were stuck between a couple of trees, I just knocked them over so that you could try to waddle back down to the ocean."
"You did What?" Cried Sheila shocked that the girl could manage such a feat.
"I knocked over the trees, It was quite easy after I dug out the area around you so you wouldn't get completely dry."
Sheila now noticed the very shallow water that was around her. "were did the water come from?" she asked, still a little groggy with a large headache that had started.
"Why from the ocean, silly." The girl laughed at what seemed so obvious. Then Sheila's stomach growled. Before the whale could speak Linda suddenly said "Oh! Im sorry! you havent eaten anything for almost a day!" She looked out around the beach at the several now dead fish scattered about. "I'll get you something." After several minuets Linda comes back carrying a variety of dead fish by the tails. "here you go, Open up."
Sheila did as she was told as the girl tossed both handfuls of fish in at once. The fish were covered in sand, but beggars can't be choosers. "Thank you" she said after swallowing the mouthful. Linda then used her coconut shell to give Sheila some water to drink. Once she had her fill Linda dragged the fallen trees away from Sheila. After giving her meal a few moments to settle she attempted to turn herself around in the more shallow water. After several moments with aid from Linda, she managed to get turn so that her side was to the sea. This being the quickest and most embarrassing way to get back to the water she attempted to shift her weight, with more help from Linda and a long bamboo pole she managed to start rolling down the beach to the surf.
Once back into the water, Sheila went in search for more food through the now debris laden lagoon. With that problem now taken care of Linda made her way back to the cave. Along the way she nearly tripped over an object in the sand. What could this be? she thought. She tried to lift it, but it was far to heavy. after some digging she found that it was to large for her to manage to carry it if she could lift it. She continued to dig, not find and end to the strange metallic object. Before long the sun was dipping below the horizon and she suddenly felt exhausted. After all she had not slept in two days! Linda went back to the cave were Sheila was waiting for her. The whale opened her mouth allowing the girl to climb in and get comfortable. Before long they had both drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile in an underground facility...
"OK, Who buried the probe in the sand?!?" said a man waring a tweed suit.
"I authorized it, sir." said another man in a lab coat.
"Oh did you now?" said the first man again. "Well you are FIRED!" Turning to his young blond assistant. "How much science did we learn form this experiment?"
"Um.. I don't know sir, we need time to compile the data." she said.
"Time!? TIME!?! We've been at this for years and you say we need more time?" Turning back to the man he just fired. "I'm scrubbing this experiment! initiate directive one!"
"But sir! your daughter!" Cries his assistant before the back of his hand knocks her to the ground.
"She is not my daughter! Now do it!"
Back at Sheila's cave...
Sheila is woken suddenly as a high pitch noise paralyzes her. Its lasts for what seems like forever before it stops. Suddenly Linda tastes amazing....
