At risk of starting a flame war, I have to say I'm not comfortable with this picture. Her design's cute and bravo for making her a person of color, but it feels very "stereotypical". For instance, the 1970s afro. By itself it's mostly harmless, but then add in the fact that the tiger skin gives her the "jungle look" and she starts to become more "savage". I assume she's supposed to be a modern American woman, given her meal's organisation tends to rarely be found outside the States. And then there's her name: Black Tigress. If she was Caucasian, would you have named her White Tigress? Further more, regarding her choice of prey: why is it that black super heroes only seem to fight white supremacy? The whole thing just reeks of Blaxploitation cliches. If it's being played for laughs, I guess I really shouldn't be making a big deal about it. But played straight, I'm hesitant to say, it's offensive.

Please understand, I'm not trying to be angry or being hateful about this. I know you're a cool guy and just wanted to have fun. You had no intention of upsetting me or anyone else. I actually really like her and want to help you develop her into a character instead of being a caricature.

i doubt Frakass was playing this stright, it seems like all in good fun. like you said its a blaxslpoitation paraody, have fun with the absudity! :) dont get me wrong, im against hurtful raceism but old blaxsplotation films kinda have a cult following now and generaly seen to share the same genre as grindhouse which is haveing sort of a comeback and also being parodyed today (the awesome film Black Dynamite anyone?)

just so you know im not attacking anyone or you GK, just dont think too deeply on it :)

now if you dont mind, seeing this picture is getting me in the mood for some soul train (or soul food :P )

Yeah, you're right. I guess I had sort of a Poe's Law reaction to this. It's just...I don't know. Even knowing it's satire and all for fun, it still kind of triggers me. Still, that's just an excuse for over reacting. I'm sorry if my comments rained on everyone's good time, especially Frakass.

I think... You're both right!

ndnode has totally understood my intention, in the exact same words I would have used : it's suuposed to be a 70's style blaxsploitation movie style parody (I was even listening to Isaac Hayes "Shaft" while I was finalizing the drawing :-P ). Even the name come from a stupid though : "Black Tigress... because Black Panther is already used"...
The true goal of this project wasn't to do a political satire, but just a vore pic, with a black skinned girl because... I felt like drawing a black skinned girl this time, and if some assholes can be dispatched in the process, it's just a bonus ^^

It doesn't mean that what you say, Gold_King, is silly : I understand your feeling, as I feel this myself often while looking at TV : the border between really offensive and parodicaly ironic cliche is sometimes hard to discern (Lastly, for example,I was somewhat annoyed by the "Russians are all military, spy or mobster, and often all three at once" cliche in the first Black Widow scene of "The Avengers")
The most intriguing aspect of these clichés is that they are often partially adopted by the targeted people : it's very noticeable in the Blaxsploitation works, for instance.
Your reaction is a reminder for me, to be more vigilant to cliches... Even if, all things considered, all my works are builds on inversion or parody of cliches...

Well... White Tigress... In fact, it would be indeed a great name for a "caucasian" vore-superheroine...
Black and White Tigresses, it could be a great team! :-P

I was myself struggling with that, stereotypes can be funny or offensive depending on the overall mood and feel of its representation, which is always subjective.

For instance, many claim the movie "Django" is racist, despite it being about a black slave triumphing over whites slave masters.

I very much like the pic, but as soon as I saw it I knew there was gonna be potential for drama, luckily both you and Ndnode have responded with great maturity and wisdom.
