When I was at Dragon*Con this year, I saw this couple everywhere - standing in every long line, sometimes a couple of people away from me, sometimes across the street on the hill outside the Hyatt, occasionally in the back of overcrowded rooms. Not literally. They aren't real people. It's just their story that was percolating in my head while I was there, as a story tends to.
They're kind of your average nerdy couple in a lot of ways. It was way too hot in Atlanta to be wearing a panda hoodie, much less mittens, but you could say the same for a full fursuit or a head-to-toe vinyl catsuit. They clung to eachother - especially her to him - the way lots of couples did. It was probably still early in their dating process. She had a whole slew of old badges on her lanyard - really more than someone her age probably should - and he had one. And she sealed her lips on his skin and he winced, nobody paid them any mind, because nerds are funny creatures who do funny things. If he was still bleeding a little afterward... well, that's funny, right?
The only part of her panda costume that wasn't fake were her fangs. Dragon*Con is when she can wear them with pride, and when nobody gives her trouble for having them showing without wearing some silly gothy, lacy thing that really isn't her style. The hoodie is a cheap costume, but it's also handy: vampires are always cold, always hungry for body heat. She clings to him for that as much as she likes keeping her sack lunch close.
I don't think it was his last Dragon*Con, though. I'm sure after a night at the Masquerade watching hardbody Herculeses and bodypaint Poison Ivies strut past, their clinging turned into a race to get each other out of their clothes as soon as they got back to their hotel room, but she's careful. He's a keeper. She keeps a chart tracking how much she's had checks his pulse a few times each day, because even if she'd never turn him, she's planning on making sure he has a slew of badges someday too.

Ah, them old "Vampire the Masquerade" LARPs back in the late 90s come to mind. It's disturbing how of all Vampire Clans it's the Malkavians who seem to blend into a crowd of humans almost perfectly.
Very good catch of a mental image. The perception of something you see on the streets is often the best inspiration.

When I was at Dragoncon this year....I was overheating in a heavy, dark steampunk pirate outfit. Lucky damn always cold vampires.
