"Eating crow" is a colloquialism that means to stoically take a deserved lecturing. I.E. if I forgot to take out the trash and my wife starts complaining to me out about it, if I were to sit and take it, I could be said to be "eating crow".
In this case, the predator is literally eating a crow.
