Tried one of those split underwater/above water perspectives. Also, I spent some time on skin details that are totally lost unless you zoom in pretty close, not sure if I'd considered that a wasted effort.

Wow, this looks amazing! Great coloring, and all the little details; the lightning strike, raindrop splashes, little nicks in her hide, everything! Don't consider it a wasted effort. :D

Considering it's the open ocean and there's a storm going on, her stomach is probably the safest place to be. For a while at least.
