Read this post on the website, if you like: https://adventurerpgame.wordpress.com/2016/09/16/arpg-side-story-1-1/
> Start Side Story
You are Kargus, a mercenary cleric hired by a reclusive mage named Cedric in order to protect his work. Everything about this job has been a bit on the sketchy side though. He's yet to really tell you much about what he's been working on, and he's been working out of an Ancient ruin. He pays well though, so there's little reason for you to complain. Most of the time, you're just chasing ferals or beasts away from the entrance. However, today he calls you and the other mercenary, an impure wolf beastkin warrior named Loth, into his "control room" and you feel like today's going to be a difficult day.
"We have visitors." Cedric explains. The human looks concerned. "They've set off the sensors at the entrance. I'm not sure if their here on purpose or just exploring. Either way, I want them gone."
"By 'gone', ya mean killed? Or jus' chased off?" Loth asks, with her large axe in her hands. "Cause I'm fine with either."
"I don't care. Just get rid of them. But if they're here on purpose, you will likely need to eliminate them." The mage continues, looking up at some sort of projection. "The sensors claimed there to be only two. You should have an easy time with them."
"Sounds like an even match to me." You frown, speaking up. "I don't really care much for those."
"Then use the ruin to your advantage." Cedric looks at you. "I've reactivated the traps within. There's not many, but they could prove useful. They haven't triggered any other sensors, so they're still near the entrance. Now go take care of it!"
"Sure thing, old man." Loth nods. "Sure ya don't wanna join in?"
"I've explained this before. I am not some sort of lowly combat mage." The mage looks irritated. "Such use of magic is barbaric and wasteful."
"Let's just hope these traps of yours work." You shrug, heading towards the exit of the room with Loth following. "I'd like to avoid direct fighting if I can."
Heading through the passages of the ruin, you think about the layout of the area and where the traps are. The ruin is divided up into five larger rooms with narrow passages connecting them in a linear fashion. So the intruders will have to enter each room in order. Easy to defend, but there's only one exit, so it things go wrong, you might be in trouble.
The intruders are currently in the first room, the entrance. There's nothing that's useful there, so unless you want to fight them head-on, then there's no reason to meet them.
The second room though, is divided up into a upper and lower section, with a small staircase that is the only way up to the upper section. The trap in that room is some floor plates just before the staircase that cause the lower section to fill with a poisonous gas. Fairly nasty, but the floor plates are easy to see. You'd have to distract someone pretty heavily to get them to step on it, knock someone into it, or purposely step on it in order to trigger it. Regardless, once it's triggered, you expect the intruders to either rush up the stairs or out the entrance.
You'll worry about the other rooms if you're actually forced to go into them. For now, you and Loth make your way to the first room.
"Alright snack, what's the plan here?" Loth asks, though you hate that "nickname" she has given you. Mostly because she has tried in the past to make it a reality, though you did show her the error of her ways then. She's loyal to you, if a bit annoying at times. "Cause I'm fine with jus' bashing some heads in. But knowin' ya, ya wanna do something 'sneaky' or whatever."
The intruders have yet to enter the room. Perhaps you could send Loth out to be bait and lure them into the trap. Though you're still not completely sure what you're up against...
-----
And here we have the first Side Story! This story will continue until either the intruders are defeated/repelled or Kargus is defeated. Allow me to describe our player character a bit.
Kargus is a male Decepio Cleric who works as a mercenary. He's not a traditional cleric though, and while he does have some supportive healing spells, he prefers occult magic instead. He's of the dominating and tricky personality, so those are the type of actions he will prefer to use. He often uses his harmless appearance to throw his enemies offguard, sometimes even playing the victim in order to trick them into "rescuing" him, so that he can stab them in the back later.
Known Spells:
-Heal: Basic healing spell
-Flash: Blinding light flash
-Occult Blast: Burst spell that doesn't do much damage, but is good for knocking things away. Can Corrupt.
-Occult Curse: Curse spell that causes Corruption upon a target.
He's a capable mage with divine and occult elements though, so feel free to try something new. :V
Also, Corruption is a sort of poison effect that can sap a person's physical strength and wear them down.

BURN EVERYTHING!!!
...
wait no fire spell ? darn, uhm
well let's try with sneaking/scouting first, if they look lost try to persuad them politely to leave, if that is not the case, let loose the Loth!

Get the girl with the axe naked by using Occult Blast on her clothes.... >.>
Posted by KingNothing 8 years ago Report
Have Lolt wait at the top of the stairs, to distract them with her Feminine Wiles as tbey enter the room. How doesn't matter; she just needs to make sure they're so focussed on her that they don't see the floorplates.
Ideally, we should remain out of sight so that we can support her with a Flash or Heal if necessary. She's the melee tank, though; it's her job to risk the ire of ranged enemies.

Damn you birb, why do you have to start this on a weekend.
Posted by Schpadoinkle 8 years ago Report
Reach up and make squeezy motions with your hand. Not your fault if Loth walks boobs first into it.
Posted by ShotgunJesus 8 years ago Report
So, she's a big, strong warrior, huh? And you're a little noodle-armed mage.
Ride on her shoulders. For mobility.
Posted by Kartomic 8 years ago Report
Or between her boobs, for protection and warmth!

Joke: Have Loth eat or unbirth Kargus and feign pregnancy. Get intruders close then decapitate. Regurgitate and have meatloaf.
Serious: Rough up Kargus some and then have him wait after the poison gas trap. Have him plea for aid and make the intruders believe he was a fellow explorer. As for Loth, she can simply wait by the door in the next room axe raised. Kargus can use occolt blast to force them in the room and hopefully knock them over for an easy execution or two from Loth.
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
I have a similar idea. Instead of having her wait by the door to the next room, let's make her wait on the upper floor and stay out of sight. Once they're a good distance into where the poison will go, yell "NOW" and have Loth step on the plates. If they try to get out via our direction, then we can occult blast them back into it.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
This is given if Kargus has the strength to keep the intruders back, they may be larger than he can handle or perhaps counter mage him.
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
Hmm, fair enough. I do have an alternate idea. If they're not in the room yet, go in and set off the traps. Then go up to the top area and wait on our side. Once they enter the room and make their way over to us, we can then occult blast them down to the poison.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
If the wolfkin lass can overpower at least one of the intruders than I would feel confident in this strategy.
Posted by Sergit 8 years ago Report
I think we should do some scouting on the intruders first. Species, whether they look dangerous or harmless, friendly or hostile.
I think Loth should remain hidden until we give her the signal. let's see if we can just tell these intruders to leave.
If they won't listen, Kargus stands near the plates, covering them with his own body.
As the enemies approach, Kargus should use flash to blind the enemies and as they can't see anything, step on the plates and rush upstairs. Hopefully, by the time they recover their sight, the poison is already up there affecting them. if they blindly try to run up the stairs without being able to see, let's have Loth grab them and do with them as they see fit.
By the way, what kind of poison is it? Sleep posion? lethal poison? paralyzing poison?
Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report
Poison poison. Obviously. :V
Posted by tyrion13 8 years ago Report
ohs noes, if we poison them cans we still eats them safely? this sounds like a bad trap design.
Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report
I won't be that mean. :V
Posted by tyrion13 8 years ago Report
we need to know what we are dealing with. we have more rooms we can fall back too we don't need to get them at the first or second one. Spy on them as they come into the first room. once we know more about them we can figure out how to proceed. If we are caught and they give chase we can lead them to the trap, possible casting flash on them along the way so they don't know whats going on.

Listen to the new thoughts from the Hydra-like god who has taken up residence in his mind and begin flirting subtly with Loth. Have the plan involve him being the 'poor innocent victim' to her trying to snarf him down, and the moment they turn their backs to Kargus, hit them with a focused curse to their eyes to blind them. Maybe mixing up flash with the occult curse to create a blinding effect that's a bit more permanent on them without giving them a chance to defend against it.
Alternately, if the occult curse can be done subtly without people noticing, try to hit them both with that while posing as a healer and warrior exploring the same ruins and happy to team up with the two of them. Let it sap their strength a good bit while pretending Kargus and Loth are both being affected as well, then pounce and defeat.
Either way, once they're taken care of, feed one to Loth and then shove the other up her snatch. Flirt heavily while giving belly-rubs.
:P
Posted by DissociatedChaos 8 years ago Report
Or, you know, spy to get some idea of what we're dealing with first and then pick what looks more likely to work. Whatever ends up with Loth having a nice full belly for her snack to rub. ^.~

No hydra gods allowed. Only Chaos. Before there was Something, there was Nothing. And in that Nothing lived Potential. Potential sang, and in its words Everything swam. And within Everything, there was the First Truth.
The First Truth was jealous of Potential; it was unable to understand its nature. It began to swim through the song, dancing from thing to thing and establishing an order. Before long, Potential was dead, and there was no longer Nothing. Something had taken its place. This is the nature of Causality, and of Reality. We live in the eyes of a corpse, and our god is a tapeworm in its stomach.

Step on the pressure plate then leave the room where you entered. they wont bother coming in unless they can, at which point ambush them on the way to room 2.

Send Loth out to bait them in. We can get an idea who it is at the same time :)

I think we should try to recruit a moff into our party. It is extremely important that we do this, for tactical and morale reasons. tactically, nobody can fight a fluffy moff because the floof will devour you. moralewise, who doesnt want to snuggle something extremely floofy?
Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report
Sadly, there are no moffs here. D:

We must reroll this world D:
Posted by tyrion13 8 years ago Report
cheer up, we don't know who the intruders are, for all we know one of them might be a moff.

but then the party is surely doomed!!

What about fire? I hear that's a natural enemy of floof.

Attack them in the first and after a while lure them into the second and activate the trap
Posted by Thagrahn 8 years ago Report
High ground is good for spying and sniping. Have Loth guard the stairs, but keep low until she needs to stop someine on the stairs.
Can the Occult Blast be used to trigger the trap directly, or just by hitting someone to make them step or fall on the plates?
Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report
It could be used, though it's a fairly short ranged spell. Obviously we could attempt to cast a longer ranged version though.
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
Battleplans!
Please pick one (1):
A) Feed yourself to Loth.
B) Use Occult magic to darken the room and more importantly mask the pressure plate in shadow.
Crouch at the top of the staircase of room 2, casting 【(Divine) Detect Life】 to determine once the intruders enter, then throw a simple 【Occult Blast】 at them. If they're dumb enough, they'll run over the pressure plates.
C) Leave the ancient ruin. We got our money, who cares what happens to the catgirl and crazy inventor?
D) Burn the Inn
Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report
Who said we got paid already? :V
Also, it's a wolfgirl. :U
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
She's a wolf?? You even wrote that... >_> Maybe I shouldn't play drunk? Happy Friday, incidentally. ^ω^
Thagrahn's idea is good: Continue to do sneaky stuff from choice "B", but manually trigger the trap with a longer range 【Occult Blast】.
Posted by DanzoLegend 8 years ago Report
Hmm either lore out or try to talk with em. No need to make this a bloodbath if it's just some people here on accident.
Posted by RumiBelly 8 years ago Report
Use Occult blast to throw the holy hand grenade at them, or a stone or something. hearing a sound they will know something is moving besides them. If they're peaceful they'll talk if not then we still get to remain hidden and can blind then when they come through

Jump inside Loth's mouth and spam heal spells in her stomach while she raises hell.
Posted by DissociatedChaos 8 years ago Report
I fully approve of this tactic, and have seen it done to great effect! Though it doesn't always end so well for the healer. :P

Room 1-sneak and scout. We don't know what we face and they might be too superior. So we have to find out. No pay is good enough if you are not going to be around to spend it.
So we quietly sneak up and watch/listen. This may be a Kargus solo mission. Loth looks like her idea of sneak is not screaming as she charges to attack.
If they look tough, ask them politely to go away. If they don't leave, quit this job and stay alive. If they look like wimps, we may tell them to leave . If they are just adventuring we can tell them to go adventure elsewhere. If they are here with intent, we likely need to dispose of them. If they retreat, they, or friends, will be back.
Most likely, they will be uncertain or about our equal. In that case, watch, listen, and learn. Then retreat to room two.
Room 2-trap room. Assuming the room is entrance-two levels-exit to 3 on the upper level...
hide upstairs. have way
to set off trap from upstairs. Trigger trap when they are just past it, making retreat difficult. Then Loth prevents them from getting up the stairs, so one at least stays in the poison gas. Our boy adds spells to help her out. Heal to keep her fighting, Blind to hurt fighting ability, Blast to knock them back into the poison, and Curse just to weaken.
Posted by tyrion13 8 years ago Report
Just had an idea. Since the poison fills the lower part, why don't we set off the trap, then use our Occult Blast on the poison, to knock it back, and spread it into the first room while the intruders are in their.

Understandable now that I think about it. It's late and I'm not thinking straight.
Posted by Kartomic 8 years ago Report
See if we can't get a peek at who the unlucky adventurers are first. Have Loth hang back a bit, just in case.
Posted by Lifeneedsdeath 8 years ago Report
another possibility is to ambush and spam the crap out of spells at them. like just wait with both characters halfway into the room from the doorway, spam curse, spam blast when theyre getting somewhat into melee range, and then fight with partner. and then spam flash and heal during the fight when needed. of course it looks like neither of the characters have sunglasses or goggles so we might also be effected by our own flash, but then that means its like a temporary way to pause the fight to go back to spamming. (if the cleric can jump back a little bit while casting flash. also if loth is coordinated to jump back as well.) unless of course the cleric has to yell flash, in which case its worthless, (just like the surprise ambush,) because everyone would know to close their eyes. in which case scratch flash. does aoe spells like flash effect our teammates or cleric?
Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report
When it comes to magic, friendly fire is always on. :V
So yeah, we do have to be careful with spells like Flash.

Keep in mind we would like to take prisoners alive, for dinner. The boss is not fussy about how we get rid of them and devouring them is good for us. Of course, ending up alive is our chief goal and while vore prefers extremely fresh meat we can make do with recently finished. But we should be looking for chances to take them alive.
