I'm sure eliminating the competition had nothing to do with the fact that Smokey later designated the black bear a "nuisance bear" and ate him.

for an added humor touch you could have given him a smokey hat made out of leaves and twigs.And made the girl a blonde.^_^

This is presumably the same bear that shows up in another drawing with said hat and of course it's defintely the "problem bear" that Smokey ate in yet another drawing. 83

"Nuisance bears" are either relocated or killed. Smokey combined the two by relocating the black to his stomach. 83
