Feral gul in the Maker's service have many functions, such as scouts and as armored shock troops (commonly called berserkers and known for their red armor, but typically of Barbarian-type classes).

Another common function is as mounts for smaller spellcasters. They are reasonably fast, able to run for hours if need be, and good enough in a fight to defend their rider. Most often they wear light armor but sometimes they are just in fur with a saddle for their rider, in this case a praka spellcaster.

Naturally a female spellcaster riding a male feral gul will provoke much good-natured talk of how once the battle is over the mount will be the one on top, but this is not always the case. Just often.
