Given her character quirk I've wanted to see stuff with Ilyana for years but this isn't quite what I was expecting :P

Well I'm glad I was at least able to give you something with her, even if it isn't what you'd anticipated. xD

Hm. Unfulfilled.
I'm a little sad now...units don't even respawn in FE.

Well it's interesting... I was actually originally thinking of writing a sequel, where Subeta goes in after her, ends up stealing Crisis meal so she can absorb Ilyana's powers by eating her. Then after Ilyana's untimely demise, Ilyana goes to hell and becomes a succubus in hell because her apatite is so great, quickly gaining in power because she's not inherently evil enough to belong there.

I never got how souls work in Felarya. If you die, you probably go to Hell and get eaten again, which one would presume is permanent.

If a Succubus eats you the first time, is that also soul destruction?
Or is it NEVER soul destruction, and the real Hell is respawning and being digested over and over again? Life is Hardcore, but when you die, you drop to Softcore...in Hell.

But yeah, that'd be interesting to see. If a bit complex.

That is one of the the theories, yes. Then there's the idea that if there isn't soul destruction what if each time you come back it's as a lesser being? Like classic Hindu reincarnation. There's also the possibility of an endless cycle of reincarnation, where one life time is mortal, the other lifetime is spiritual, then your soul has to start out as a baby mortal again, remembering nothing of your old life but still having the same spirit and potential morality.

Like I said, I've had a lot of thoughts about what I might do with it. I'd also written a bit of a short story plot with a succubus matriarch who was going to take over a certain level of hell, and that might have been an interesting place to throw Ilyana. I had always written my demons delighting in the most corrupt and evil of souls to devour because it's their 'job' to punish. So in Ilyana's case, there wouldn't be as many predators in hell interested in her.

There's also the possibility that if you're too evil you reincarnate *in* hell when your soul is devoured until your nothing more than a gnarly imp, a toadie to greater powers until you can find some form of redemption.

... I'm sorry for talking your ear off xD Sometimes the ideas start bouncing around in my head and I just can't stop until the thought's finished so I can decide if the plot ideas are worth pursuing.

Well, at the rate Felarya goes through people, I don't know about coming back as a lesser lifeform. Maybe just "another" life form. A Harpy's prey becomes a hatchling's soul...maybe Felarya's population can't actually increase without outside souls. All theory, of course.

It's good to discuss ideas! It's easy to get blocked up or unmotivated, but talking with someone often is a big help. You seem fond of "soul reduction," as I'm calling it now. Reminds me a little of Agrajag from The Hitchhiker's Guide.

Well you don't *always* come back as a lesser form, it depends on your karma. Good people are supposed to come back in slightly elevated ways, like as nobility or or with greater talents like good singing voices and whatnot.

I'm just saying that if you're in hell, you're likely going to come back as something lesser to further your punishment.

Ah, I see. Then I guess the question is how one accrues virtues in hell. Is it just like ELO hell and your personal effort no longer matters; you're condemned to eternal worsening? Or are there opportunites to show morality?

Lum_the_mad

I think there are opportunities to show a sense of morality. For example, on of the best instances of a choice for a moral high ground was in Karbo's manga checkmate. The queen there COULD have sacrificed herself for the greater good of the game and the other people who were pieces on the chess board. Instead she panicked when she realized she was going to be taken, and tried to use the other pieces as a shield for her, thus losing the match and being swallowed anyways.

There's always choices and chances you can make that might be more moral, even in the depths of hell :P
