Just add some nonstick spray on the other side of the trap door and then it gets deers who aren't klutzy.

What I don't get is why boldly jump and sacrifice your main two anchors to the ground. You'd be better feeling around with something safely like a stick, or if you actually have nothing.. your foot or hand.

Trapdoors tend to have very weak triggers after all since they usually can't afford to have a weight limit. Unless of course in the situation where it's a dungeon or temple, and the adventurer is a lot heavier coming out than going in due to picking up a ton of loot. In which case they wouldn't really notice the trap door on their way in and have no real way to avoid it on their way out. The main flaw being additional party members.
