The subterranean pit of Salosza is a great, yawning gateway that marks the beginning of an impossibly large tunnel that curls and twists on forever through the crust of the Earth. Hidden in the darkness of the chamber's vaulted ceiling lie hundreds of immense watchers that guard the entrance to the lightless hell beyond. They are unnatural creatures of cold, living stone concealing a hideous core of warped, heaving flesh that shifts and flows like water. They slide through darkness in perfect silence, crawling on vertical pillars and through solid rock as if immune to the laws that govern ordinary nature.

Ancient peoples believed them to be star demons that jailed the manifest sins of the Earth in the winding tunnels below. Every day, legions of priests and attendants would adorn them with sacred ornaments and holy oils, and make sacrifices by the thousands to empower them against the imprisoned darkness. Now the creatures feed on anything that enters the pit, going for hours or centuries without food, never blinking, never sleeping, and never betraying what their true purpose might be.
