The people of New Lapin had a decision to make.

Suffer overcrowding and starvation from the population explosion on their colonized planet: unpalatable.

Enact mandatory birth control and other measures (sterilization, euthanasia) to keep the population growth at a sustainable rate: unacceptable.

Clone predator species from the colony ship's DNA banks and set them loose on the planet to enact the most natural form of population control ever...

... well, it keeps the population numbers down, and the blood off the hands of the bunnies of New Lapin.

Except nobody thought to ask the newly decanted predators what they thought about this solution.
