Really love your feral drawings. Nice sized belly. <3
And wow, that sucks. This is why I wait for payment before submitting, ant anti-scammer measure.

Yeah, I tend to run a sketch first, payment second, finish last policy on my commissions. That way the worst that happens is I've spent a bit of time on an unpaid sketch.

I agree with this method.

That's what I do.
Here the price agreed at first was paid after the sketches. What changed was the position of the person on the conditions at which the drawing can be kept and used by myself. I think I will now have to ask every commissionner to write clearly a statement at the time the payment is made... Sounds too formal to me, but otherwise I am stuck

Do what you must. If you believe this will help you and deter others from trying underhanded things, all the more reason to do so from a business perspective.

I do that with people.

I'd advise against keeping their name quiet, honestly. Not just because they frankly deserve to be shunned after stiffing someone, but also, other artists should know that this person now has a history of reneging on commissions and agreements. They just wasted a good chunk of your working time that you'll never see a dime for; shouldn't other artists be able to have warning that this person might do the same to them?
's a nice fox though. Would pet a fox like that.

I agree. Make it a warning to other artist to avoid this scammer. Scamming is a big problem with artists, especially in places like Deviantart where artists commonly sell commissions.

They did not intend to scam. It was a misunderstanding on the commissioner's part. They're not good at reading and were unaware of the rules Shoelace had.

Let's sick the nice fox on the bad person and not make it so pretty.

They're not a bad person. They were just misunderstood about the rules Shoelace has. The lack of payment for keeping the piece private was a misunderstanding.

Ok I'll take your word on it

It turns out that it was a mistake on commissioner's part. He doesn't check Aryion often and didn't see the message. He should be getting it sorted soon.

Unfortunately, from my point of view I cannot each time assume there is a misunderstanding. I think that, like most of the artists around, I have already been scammed a couple of times here. It can even be people who ask for complicated sketches, like comic pages that takes days to prepare, and then fly away saying they are not interested anymore while you already provided them with (watermarked) sketches. I fortunately don't waste materials, but I waste precious time I could use for other commissions or personal stuff.
Here I waited a week for an answer and I still kept everything anonymous, which is still fair because otherwise other artists would blacklist the person. I really cannot do more because the messages I sent are the only thing I can rely on :/
