A little known fact about cave exploration is that hypothermia is a real threat. Unless you're deep underground, those tunnels are cold and it's easy to become dangerously chilled.
This is not a problem Bobby needs to worry about.
(It's actually quite dark in there, but so we can see what's going on I left the lights on, so to speak. This is why Bobby doesn't at first realize what is happening.)
