Butcher Bird By doomfister -- Report

A herd of mares are foraging for berries in the godless lands of primeval south America.

Unfortunately for them, an apex predator has wandered out of its normal ecological niche and it has decided it wants to sample the local food. In this case, the easy prey that is the diddly anthro toed horses who happen to be bite-sized snacks to the mighty Kelenken.

Done as a gift for the incredibly talented  Minahyena who is the source of the thumbnail, and the base idea of the concept. Nothing tickles my fancy more then some tribal anthros fighting what in their eyes are monsters, which in this case is more of just them running away from something that wants to tuck the helpless horses up in its belly as a quick snack.

Great story! I quite liked the idea of portraying the diminutive early equine ancestors who cohabited their environment with huge and deadly 'Terror Birds' with a similar lifestyle as ancient human ancestors. This is probably a very similar scenario to the fate of the tiny human-like so called 'Hobbits' whose fossils have been found on Flores in the Java Sea, which unfortunately for them, was also inhabited by ten foot long Komodo Dragons! I particularly like the part when the main Mare thought she might be regurgitated to freedom only to discover she was going down another gullet! All in all, the 'internals' seemed very convincing. The only thing that seemed to be missing was the fact that a large carnivorous bird would expel far more that a neat fur pellet after a large meal, but then, I don't think anybody EVER had to 'go to the bathroom' on television shows or movies made before about 1970! Thanks for sharing!

i am sure there is a bit more to be let out the back door ;). but as you know birds like to walk a little before taking their morning shits

i did this with the baby birding in mind, its a little something i love with avian preds and Mina gave me an excuse to scratch that itch.
