DOWNLOAD FOR SHADING!


Loud grumbling echoed throughout the cavernous stump that was The Great Hollow. It's occupants normally motionless, the only exception being that of a single mushroom-separate from its ilk, at the bottom of the tree.

The noise emanated from the fungus's stomach-or what passes for one in such a bizarre creature. It's middle was bloated, an obscene facsimile of a normal person's gut. While it's species are normally quite plump, this one was unusually fat.

However, it wouldn't take long for someone to surmise the nature of the mushroom's swollen physique. A bright flask, leaking Estus onto the mulchy soil; clear indication of how the monster acquired such heft.

Only minutes prior, an undead-possibly a knight, or a rogue-had attempted to dispatch the beast on their route to Ash Lake. Whether they were underequipped, or simply overconfident; the curvy mushroom gained the upper hand. It took advantage of the adventurer's last minute casting-an attempt to stave off defeat by returning the creature's own attack at them-and promptly shoved their still form into its rear.

Under normal conditions, Karmic Justice would have returned however much damage was inflicted upon it's caster right back at the perpetrator, but since the mushroom acted to consume-not bludgeon, pierce, or attack in any conventional manner; all it felt was a firm slap on it's cheeks as the Chosen Undead's leather boots were finally sucked between them.

Here, the miracle might have had greater effect, as the dimwitted fungus began the job of breaking down its squirming meal. Only, without any room to cast it; the unfortunate hollow was left utterly defenseless. Over the course of several very long hours, the former human would feel their armor's durability degrade, and their energy leached by a combination of toxin and digestive fluids. With no Estus flask to regain strength, the sorry hollow faded into oblivion forever-unable to revive without a solid corpse.

The oblivious mushroom would notice very little of this, having only been slightly stimulated from the spell's effects-rather than harmed. During the process of digesting the Chosen Undead, it simply returned to idly standing still; mindlessly staring at the bark in front of her as any health she'd lost during the short lived fight was replenished from the mass in her guts.

Frampt would always wonder what had happened to the promising undead that had rung the bells of awakening, never knowing they had met their fate miles away from any of the Lord Souls. Several days later, another adventurer would confusedly obtain several valuable items: a rusty bandit knife, a pierce shield-with one massive dent in its frame, a somewhat stained bottomless box, and one soul-brimming with enormous raw energy! Quite a haul, though; they could only wonder, perplexed, as to why it was all located in a massive Dung Pie...

Oh well, could always use it to inflict Toxic at a later point!

I didn't feel like including the story with the previous .gif. And yeah, I know some of this doesn't gel with the lore-sue me, I'm tryin' ta write a story here!

I might make a few more things like this, with various different monsters. Also, I threw in a little Demon's Souls into the other image, just 'cause I liked the idea of an effect similar to the Nexus.
