Hi again, I am still on vacation, but I had a picture I really wanted to make. I have recently discovered how to put texture on my digital drawings, so here is my first attempt (The hippopotamus' mouth, the skirt and the brick wall).
Nothing much really and the picture was made simple and fast, but please tell me what you think :3

.........................
It was just a regular day at the zoo and nobody had expected something else either. The weather wasn’t too warm, nor chilly and people of every age strolled among the cages to look at the animals on exhibition. Some were parents with their children, some were elderly people who just wanted an excuse to get out and other again used zoo for a place to jog and exercise.

The zookeepers had for a while been aware that the fence surrounding the hippopotamus ditch was in need for a repair and an upgrade, but mainly because of the danger posed by people who for some stupid reason would try to get into it! Your usual public safety.

Nobody had foreseen that the opposite could happen!

It happened so fast that no really understood the situation before it occurred. A woman came walking outside the fence, talking in her cellphone and otherwise lost to the world. She was a pretty yet small woman, and if it hadn’t been for her black business skirt, grey matching blouse and well-developed bosom, one could easily have mistaken her for a girl who had skipped school that day.

Without warning, the hippopotamus plowed through the fence, bending the metal from its’ sheer weight and ran up behind the woman at an impressive speed. She didn’t even got time to turn around before the animal opened its’s mouth and slammed the lower jaw against her legs, making her fall backwards into the maw. People watching it began to scream, but the hippopotamus didn’t seem to care, instead it lifted its head up and gulped down the woman, swallowing her whole and alive, the last people saw before it closed its jaws was her shapely, kicking legs.

After having done its deed, a wet gulp followed before the hippopotamus went calmly back to the cage. For a while, people just stood there, staring at the hippopotamus in utter disbelief… while the creature did nothing. Some though they could see a few moving bulges on its belly, but knowing the woman was so small and the animal’s skin being so thick, nobody was really sure. It wasn’t until a man came running towards the cage with a phone to his ear, speaking to a hysterical woman on the other end, that it became clear that the petite woman was still alive inside the hippo.

Well, since Hippo guts aren't really designed to process meat, she might be out alive. And what a lucky girl she would be to have such a pleasant experience and live to talk about it.

I like in the background story that you addressed the problem of zoos and other such establishments getting in trouble because of stupid visitors.

Also, that would be an awkward phone call to receive; I wonder how good one's reception would be from inside a hippo XD

The different textures do look pretty good. I especially like the dress with the double-cross shading you gave it to make it look more woven.

I also liked the story, it came unusually easy when I was drawing this. And yes, I somewhat imagined this scenario to be a rather non-dangerous one (despite that hippo's are among the deadliest animals in Africa!).
The phone reception won't be a problem this days, skin and flesh doesn't pose any problems for modern communication. But still, the phone call might still be quite awkward as you said ;)

Great work! The hippo look really good, especially for a 'simple and fast' drawing, and the sexy legs show just enough to get the imagination going. And I love the little accompanying story, it really adds to the whole.

Hope you're having a nice time on vacation, too! :D

Thanks a lot for saying so and I am glad you like the story behind the picture. Drawing a life-like animal isn't always easy, but I found a reference picture of a stereotypical hippo that I thought I could manage to follow without screwing it up completely. :P

I am currently working on another illustration from your excellent stories, and the starring creature there, took considerable more effort to draw!
