Head Cannons for how Shining got Promoted.

Vore Cannon: Shining was Promoted because Celestia got hungry and ate the previous Captain, leaving the spot vacant. Shining, being Lieutenant at the time, was immediately promoted. Celestia planned all along to eat him if she got too hungry but Cadance (Chrysalis in disguise) snatched him first and then the REAL Cadance came and saved the day and rescued him, snatching him out from under his ravenous Princess.

Non-Vore Cannon: Shining was LITERALLY the only one who could cast a shield spell strong enough to keep the Changelings out of Canterlot after hearing about the invasion. Unknown to any of them, Chrysalis was already within the castle walls, posing as Cadance and sucking Shining's love (aka his dick) while waiting for him to weaken so she could break his barrier and start her invasion.

Wow, I've actually seen a story that joked about Shining sleeping his way to the top...I assume that it is in fact the former Captain in there (likely after a failure of some sort...or Celestia just got hungry), and that Cadence being his girlfriend was to prevent Shining from being eaten for his failure with the Changeling Queen...or just being eaten after Celestia got what she wanted...

If that's a merit-less interpretation then please say so AugustBebebl.

I am really happy to see this, in particular you working again. I would love to make a story based on this someday...
