Eh, could have been worse. He could have died and been brought back to life as a flower without a soul, cursed to view the world and its inhabitants as pawns and tools and things that would be better off dead, a fate no one truly deserves, especially not him.
So all in all I would say being swallowed alive is an upgrade XD
