Ah, and here we are at image 2 of 5. :) I'll be releasing the rest over the next few days, and when it's complete, you'll be able to download a hi-res, full PDF version of the remade drawings on my Gumroad!
This image is the one I feel that people remember the most because I used Fluttershy's face from this as my profile pic on Eka's for literally 7 years. I remember how proud I was of that expression after I drew it...that's why I chose it as my profile pic. But now, I can talk about what I did to improve upon it!
An early artist "trick" is to hide the things you're afraid to draw or feel you are bad at drawing. I did that heavily in this image. I hid her left hand, as well as her entire right arm. In doing so, it really disrupts the composition of the original, and her right arm SHOULD be visible somewhere. In the redraw, I decided I wanted to show her right arm and keep her left hand IN the image itself. Hands provide as much emotional information as the face does, since they're so expressive for humans, so in showing the hands, you can see even more so how much distress Flutters is in. Additionally, bringing the left arm up a bit and showing a bit of her right leg raised, provides some motion for the drawing/pose. Instead of just standing there like she is in the original, she appears to at least be trying to run away in the redraw.
There are a lot of little things done to the redraw to bring it up to snuff with my current skill level. I've correctly parted her hair and given it more flow to help show some motion in the image. I've corrected the thickness and curve of the dragon's tongue (the lines are uneven in the original where it goes behind her and curls back in front). And mostly I've added overlaps to the line art to create depth. If you look at her waist/bum area, you can see how flat it looks, not just due to the poor color shading, but the lines being uniform. Line art is truly essential in creating the beginning of the illusion of depth. The only example of overlapping lines in the original is in her left arm, and they are anatomically incorrect. That's not how an elbow looks, and it just appears like her arm is twisting. The bone structure is corrected in the redraw, and shows how the overlapping lines make her forearm and hand appear like it's distancing itself from us, as opposed to being on the same plane.
Her expression is what I wanted to improve upon the most in this drawing, while also maintaining it. It's evident that my drawing style has leaned a bit more toward realism over the years, as her head size has decreased, making her less cartoony than the original. Her eyes, nose, and mouth are now appropriately placed on her face (her poor right eye in the original is sticking out of her face lol), and I really wanted to emphasize the squish of her cheek, something I did okay-ish with in the original, but did much better with in the redraw. I don't always draw lips on characters...it depends on the character itself...but I wasn't consistent with drawing Flutters' lips in the original, so I decided to remove them. I also fixed her overbite lol.
An attempt was made in the original to have the shadow of the jaws be looming over her, but the effect didn't quite work out, because I didn't know how shadows work. It wouldn't look right in the remake, not only because the light source is behind her, but even if it had been placed in front of her, the shadow wouldn't have been as uniform as I originally drew it. So, she's shaded correctly now.
And most importantly, I added her cutie mark. :)
If you're enjoying these analyses let me know, as I'm considering making tutorials in the near future if there is enough interest!
Best,
Nyte

That's such amazing improvement! I've always been a person who draws but only recently began to "crack down" on it.
So when I see artists improve so much it really inspires me! Congrats on improving so well

Oh wow, thanks!! Yeah, it's truly incredible to place old drawings next to new ones. It inspires me to keep improving as well, because I can't wait to see what my drawings will look like 7 years from now!
But yes, this is what it looks like when you crack down and draw literally every day. xD I'm glad it could inspire you! Keep at it!

I remember it was one of the best vore strips I'd seen- sure, Aesir and some others were already well established, but it was a new style that had a certain X factor to it.
Looking at how far it's advanced, it amazes me that I actually missed the cartoony sheen you had on earlier wet characters for a bit once you advanced.

It's amazing how many people still enjoy the original! At this point it's almost as if it's just a different style instead of an older piece of work of mine. I'm happy people still enjoy my older, more cartoony work, but I'm also super pleased people enjoy where I've reached. As we improve our skills, some style changes are bound to happen, so yeah, I kinda of lost that cartoony sheen. But to be honest, my goal was always some middle-ground between realism and cartoon. I'm quite happy with where I've landed!

I think you've reached a good balance. I remember one previous 'comparing past art' I wondered how you could possibly improve, but now your work today makes that improved work look like scribbles in a notepad (not literally but you get my point)

I get what you mean. Funny enough,I can’t imagine how I can improve further at this point, but I’m sure time will show me. xD

I had to! xD I couldn't believe I forgot it last time. (And surprisingly this is the only part of the series where it would be visible.)
