There are two ways I see this working genetcaly. Firstly in both ways the pred gene is resessive.
Way 1. the gene is on the X chromosome. This would mean that only females could get two coppies.Charles has a random mutaton that has duplicated the pred gene on the one coppy of his X chromosome this way any daughters he has would be preds nomater what their mother passed on. (unless of course having 3 coppies leads to something else or is fatal) However he would not be able to have any male preds as they would recive his normal Y gene.
Way 2 Due to Homologous recombination the farther's pred gene, which we know he had because he passed it to his daughter, was transfered to the Y chromosome (in a one in a million chance) that just so happened to be in the spirm that furtalised the egg also happend to contain thier mother's pred gene, which we know she has her daughter to be a pred, to creat the first male pred. In this case Charles would have the first ever coppy of the Y pred gene and could create other male pred ofspring with a 50/50 change coupling with a prey who is know to have the pred gene (already produced pred offspring) or a 100% chance if coupled with a pred.


Or He could actually be a She with malformed genitals this is a very rare occurance where people of both genders can appear to have the gennitals of the other gender but have the gonads of their true genetic gender.

Note: I use gender in the scientific way not the socal gender idenity way.
