Wesley and Alexia make their way to White Hills as fast as they can. They hope they can get there fast enough to rescue Calin and his companions, but time is not on their side, and the wardens are not going to give up their prisoners lightly.

What! a Rescue mission where none of the secondary characters met a gruesome end!!!
Well, I suppose you are going to dispose off them later at some point XD

Nice to see that things works out for the resistance once in a while. Wesley was clever in this chapter and used his brain for once, with great success. But I can't understand why the other sailors, absolutely thought it was a good idea to try to escape when they did. Or maybe it was to allow Alexia to rescue the most important ones instead?
Not much for cooking when it comes to my taste... but I liked the way Ruth kept the female sailor in her mouth and tongue stripped her. Sexy^^

It almost sounds like rescue missions don't usually go so well.

The sailors were panicking, and as is the case in these situations, the panicky characters always make bad decisions which often make things harder for those who are trying to keep their heads - literally and figuratively.

I thought giants ate littles whole and alive, with the occasional chewed up one every so often for a different flavor?

What would give you that impression?
Granted, you're not wrong, but giants can cook, so no reason they wouldn't add humans to the ingredients.

I know they cook other things but I thought that giants thought the best and tastiest way to eat humans and other littles was whole, alive, wriggling, and screaming.

I suppose the lack of other methods giants have been shown eating littles in all the previous stories built up the assumption.

Remind me is Skyvales land area close to that of earth? And have you ever thought about the population numbers for giants and the other races? Say there's 1 million giants? Now that I think of it that means that 3 million humans need to be eaten every day just to feed that number.

Actually do you think giants could survive eating nothing but little people and water?

And at what age would you say most giants eat their first little one (either non-alive like chewed up or pieces like steak, or whole and alive)?

Very good questions. I'll answer the easy ones first.

Yes, a giant can live on a human/water diet. It would be like us living on pork and water.

Giants can eat humans very young, starting in their infancy the moment they enter their oral phase.

Skyvale is three times the size of Earth, and has proportional landmass - so three times as much land as earth. And yes, I have thought of population numbers and have done research to compute it. I hope you're ready for some numbers to answer your question.

There are 10 billion 'humans' on Skyvale - most yokai are included in the population, although their ratio of population is 6 humans for 4 yokai. Human population growth rate is 1.5, so this means 5 billion humans die every generation - 30 years - for the population to remain constant. Meaning roughly 160 million humans die a year. Now for how they die.

Skyvale is presently at war, which translates to a lot of people dying, though not a huge percentage. Checking numbers from real wars and comparing it to how this war is fought, on average 5 million people die a year directly from the war. There are occasional high spikes when entire cities are destroyed just to make a point, but there is far more benefit to keeping people alive and under thumb.

Then there are the slaves, and they do die in high numbers. I compared this to the slaves of Egypt and Rome. Moses left Egypt with 10,000 slaves, but The Queen has 100 times that number. Compare these numbers to the deaths related to construction and coliseum games, and we get another surprisingly low value of 100,000 per year. This leaves 155 million people to die of age and vore - disease is not so much a factor as there are few and they cause entropy which makes people more susceptible to dying in other ways.

So onto the population of giants. For this we look at trophic levels, which says that every link on the food chain has 1 tenth of the biomass of the link they eat. Giants are a couple links/levels higher, as they also feed upon animals that prey upon humanoids. They are also 1000 times the size of humans. This means that for every giant, there are 100,000 humans. If a giant ate 3 humans a day every day, they would only eat 1,095 humans a year. With the math, 100,000 giants live on Skyvale, eating an average of 109.5 million humans a year. This number is reasonable, though does not leave much room for the numerous other predators. So there are most likely even fewer giants than that on Skyvale. There's also factors that there are quite a few giants that are 'vegetarian' and do not take from the human population, while other giants like to gorge on human flesh and take more than 3 per day, serving to even things out a bit.

Well this is extensive. How long have you spent thinking on this stuff?

Forgot about it being bigger. And I do like numbers. The number who die each year though talk about death world!

Does anything prey upon giants (not in the rare animal attack like earth) but just as the giants eat humans?

So some humans have screamed and struggled in the clutches of giant babies and toddlers before becoming a pleasant sensation in their stomachs? Guess it takes a while for giants to think of littles as anything but special food raised like that. And what does oral phase mean?

I've thought of it for a while. Ecosystem survival in a world full of vore is something that intrigues me.

Giants do not have any natural predators. There are large predators that can kill them, but that's more like two powerful predators competing for territory rather than a true predator and prey relationship.

Babies have a tendency to examine things with their mouths to determine what it is, that's why their constantly putting things in their mouths, even harmful things. So naturally if a baby giant puts a tasty human in their mouth, the human isn't likely to survive the encounter.
