Cydris involuntarily subdues his prey by switching which body they each perceive as their own. When he wakes up to find he has swallowed his close companion, the mistake is exceptionally difficult to resolve.

The pred's got an ability to swap minds/bodies with their prey--- his friend digests her own body while controlling his, because his body feels so damn good when he does this--- all the while he tries to warn her what she's doing to herself.
She gets too full of herself, metaphorically and literally, and grinds herself to nothing before his mind reasserts itself in his body and she's left nothing but pudge.
