So by the context of this side story, chances are that in a possible narrative take, Artemis "might" have been a reincarnation of a villainess unbirther, who permanently entrapped or expelled/damned the souls of thousands, to be permanently entrapped within her ovaries for "eternity". And by the end point; odds are maybe likely either all of those souls were free/liberated from her rampage, or say; "gestalted/integrated" within her voracious rampage, and probably tempered? To make her far less of a villain.

Honestly, if going "karma" on reincarnation, it'd have been probably more of a mercy, or due to if that fairy tale's mother, rebirthed Ainwyn, to consider rigging the game to keep her from being able to biologically unbirth, "last of line" wise? Or failing that, recycle/do advanced uteromancy techniques to salvage all the souls she claimed, to a new generation of daughters to raise better...

And honestly, thinking of countless souls trapped inside an unbirthed for "eternity". Can't help but make me think if say; they weren't suppressed. But instead say; utterly absorbed/integrated within her soul? Or say, done willingly. Or say; if an unbirther was able to harness/fully "utilize" (if not weaponise) the souls/essence of a lifetime of trapped prisoners (within say, an 'internal' heaven?) Or even if weaponised, "external" age regression/unovulation? But alas, that's when I'd imagine on a scale, a lingering Unbirth idea on my own, that I might write up one day...

I'm keeping it vague still, but offering an insight into the 'dark side' of uteromancy; what can happen if one allows themselves to become addicted to the bliss that it gives the unbirther.

Understandable. And I'd probably bet if going just as malicious, if able to 'preserve' or connect/communicate with the souls. Imagine their point of view if they're helpless, as soul after soul, joined a 'tight' prison, and being taunted spiritually, by a monster that holds you as an unmoving warden... And then, the possible hope of being 'rescued', or given mercy... Assuming, if going in the point of view of the prey....

Either being pulled out, by another 'monster'. Or, being condensed/merged into a new soul, being a sort of mercy, compared to still existing in a biological purgatory.

I like this story and the characters from the book.
I also began to wonder how an uteromancer feels to live a daily life while acknowledging that there are numerous lives stored in the depth of their sex as a primitive life form,
and how a prey would feel when they are sentenced inside a predator when the pred allowed them to remain sentient.

It depends on the uteromancer. Artemis only uses her power for good where she can; when she's forced to use it in her defence, she will try to keep her assailant sentient within her in a comfortable state, and she will communicate with them and do some therapy, to try and rehabilitate them.
Ainwyn doesn't have such morals, however, and she forces the people she absorbs into non-sentience unless she has need of their intelligence...

As to how the prey feels, well, I may explore that in a later story. Again, though, it depends on how the uteromancer wants them to feel. Suffice to say that Artemis tries to make them feel comfortable. :)

It sounds very interesting that in certain circumstance, Ainwyn allows her prey to exploit their intelligence. The prey in that case might feel completely under her control,, it’s very thrilling..

Definitely an interesting installment in the series! Personally I’d have been inclined to have Bérrith force her daughter’s body to regrow and rebirth the sisters she’d absorbed before regressing her, but that’s just a minor matter of personal taste - I find the idea of an unbirther “stealing” her prey’s babies by making them give birth inside their womb to be too appealing to pass up.

Great idea, and there's always other stories... :D
