I don't know if it's legal but... they make jokes and allusions to it within the game itself. Further, the devs made a joke in an interview that seemed to imply it happens.

Squids and Octopi routinely eat each other. The only one out of place is Callie because because of the species of squid she is, she'd only swallow Marina.
