Hex had the genius idea to gather some souls to fuel some of her nefarious schemes.
Along the way she encountered the cursed scarecrow Maya who happened to be looking for the same thing.
The two ladies decided it would be more fruitful to join forces temporarily to gain as much out of this as possible.
The two went out and caught as many people as they could evey now and then, devouring them whole, melting them and sealing their souls to their bodies, making them stronger with each new prey.
The two happened to come across a hiker who was in the worst possible place at the time, as the two womwn towered over him as he layed down on the soil, dreading which of the women would devour him.
In that moment, he took a final photo, so that others would know to avoid these women if they ever decided to show up again.
When the investigators showed up on the scene were the hiker once was, all that remained were torn clothes and a somewhat damaged camera containing this very photo.
Be cautious, you may very well be next if you're out during the night.
