RIBBIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bassy bellow rattling through Luster Dawn’s bones, causing the startled unicorn to freeze mid-step. The mare taken off-guard by the unexpected deep sound, and her analytical mind immediately tried to figure out the identity of whatever creature had made the concerning croak. Luster thought herself well-read on Equestria’s fauna, but even so she didn’t seem to recognize the vocalization that had rung out with an ominous rumble. The most likely candidates were some sort of large frog or crocodilian, though the exact pitch was far from a match to a cragodile’s territorial display.

Regardless Luster had a field study to complete, and the moulds, spores and fungus would not collect themselves. The unicorn just brushing off the low-pitched grumble, as she had not put in weeks of research to be scared away by the first strange sound the jungle threw at her. The mare ignoring the icky feeling of sweat sticking to her skin as she slowly surveyed her surroundings, but all she saw was more of the same sweltering swamp she had hiking through all morning. The humid rainforest remaining strangely silent as she scanned the undergrowth, as all the birds and insects that had just moments ago been chirping away were now eerily quiet.

The obvious signs of a predatory threat lost on the unicorn, as Luster’s domestic lifestyle had completely desensitized her to the evident danger looming only a few meters away. The unicorn just giving a shrug, not sure what to make of the situation, as she continued about her business blissfully unaware of the two emerald eyes watching her with hungry intent. The meticulous mare more bothered about getting her required data than the odd creature that had decided to interrupt the intellectual’s already unpleasant walk through the humid rainforest with a gurgling growl.

This ignorance sure to cost the mare greatly, as reading books and papers in the library would only get her so far, though to be fair little could properly prepare the pony for the appetite of the aggressive amphibian she was about to encounter. The mare unwittingly bumbling into a test she was bound to fail, as with a sudden lunge she was met with the gulping end of a gargantuan gollox, that seemed keen to make dinner of the foolish mare who had dared to disturb it.

Luster just had to get a bit closer, as the bulky beast bided its time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce. The concealed amphibian in no rush, as with the majority of its body buried in mud to keep its sensitive skin moist, the mare would be basically on top of it before she realized its predatory presence. This prediction ringing true as after a few more hoof steps the unobservant unicorn was within pouncing distance, hungry leap the greedy gollox sprang forward to claim its prize.

The massive monster erupting from the mucky moss maw agape, leaving a wide-eyed Luster pitiful time to properly evaluate the primal situation she had been suddenly shoved into. A slimy tongue wrapping around her neck like a noose, before pulling taut, propelling the petrified pony directly into the waiting jaws of the hungry frog. The mare only able to let out a mewling meep, as she was flung forwards, face-first into the dark depths of the dilated throat. Her muzzle striking the yawning abyss with a soggy splat, as in an instant the equine was up to her haunches in claggy oesophagus. The pony not given time to process her partially consumed predicament, as powerful pressure presses down on her plot with a squeezing shunt. The gollox giving a powerful blink, and with a gulping glug down Luster went with a single surging swallow.

The engulfed equine immediately starting to squirm once she slotted into the sweltering stomach, but by there it was already too late. The gollox just ignoring the muffled movements of its mare meal, as the weak quivering barely even quaked its barely misshapen midriff. The safely stowed student far from its most lively lunch, and soon the stifled struggles would shudder to a stop, just like any other meat the gollox wolf down. It's gut not too picky, and the unicorn’s fresh flesh would digest just as easily as the worms that were the mainstay of its diet. Perhaps it might hock up a few empty hooves later along with some bleached fur, as the dull keratin had a habit of being hardier than the eaten equine’s more nutritious components. For now though, it just clumsily waddled back to the defilade it had dug, keen to get out of the sun lest it be punished for its little indulgence with a chapped hide, as it could already feel itself beginning to dry out under the hot tropical sun….
