Not sure what this is? Here's a post explaining the series!: https://aryion.com/g4/view/712411
____________
Everyone seemed pretty agreeable to giving Miram our bedroll for the night to be a bit more comfortable, and being a little flirty about it even went well this time! It took a little coin, but we were able to get back on the road with her in tow.

It seems like we've hit a bit of a complication at the last minute though! Should we help engage the beast or stay out of it?

You can find Adrea’s character sheet here!: https://aryion.com/g4/view/712418
(Now featuring Miram at the bottom for as long as she's travelling with us! The better we get to know her/closer we grow, the more information on her will become available for you guys to see on the character sheet)

Remember, you can ask any questions about the world (that are relevant to the current chapter) if you think you want/need more information about something! I'll do a 'live' intelligence check before answering if it's something Adrea might know.

| CLOSED - There's either a more recent entry available to read or I've already outlined the next chapter! |

Okay, seeing how we're encountering a lizard that is as large as a horse, and we have no front line fighters, I'll have everyone basically do their best to keep a distance. I'm assuming we got a cleric and a archer, meaning that our damage output might not be good, but we should hopefully get some buffs at least. I'm thinking a plan where one person aggro the monster, get the monster to chase that person for a while, allowing everyone else to get free hits in. When it's aggro switch, the chased becomes a attacker.

Are we too far from the beast to use our blind spell? If not, I say we use it (assuming no one else would be affected by it) and follow it up with either another spell, or a double attack from Fi and Zera. We should also try to keep a reasonable distance away from it for obvious reasons.

Also, this lone ranger must've been confident they could take the beast out by themselves. She might know about this creature and how to deal with it

Not too far to try! Especially while it's moving it might be a tough target to hit, but from our current position there shouldn't be any risk of hitting anyone else if we miss

I agree with what's already been said. We should keep our distance as much as possible. Considering the harpies are merchants and not fighters, even though they do have swords we should caution them. They might need to keep the creature busy while we hit it with our magic (Without knowing what it's more vulnerable to, I don't think it matters if we use our fire or ice spells), but I don't like their chances. We should try to keep it out in the open and everyone away from it while we hit it, but if that isn't an option... well let's hope Fillia & Zera know how to use those swords.

I like TrashMammal's idea of yelling out to this mysterious archer something along the lines of "What is this thing and how do we kill it?!", assuming we have time.

So this is pretty likely to be the Basilisk from the bounty board, and based on what we learned there we know that it A) Already killed some lower ranked hunting guild members and B) The bounty had to be increased since the notice was originally posted.

My conclusion is that this basilisk is waaaay out of Adrea's league and our #1 priority should be trying to get everyone away from it safely. So I've got a question though, what does Adrea know of Basilisks, does she remember this creature from the bounty?

Adrea does remember the mention of one in the bounty, but she's actually reasonably confident this isn't a basilisk! While she's far from an expert on beasts, she recalls from stories she'd heard back in her village that they have feathers in some capacity, which this creature doesn't appear to. And although it's not impossible that it's moved since the bounty went up, from her understanding after the discussion with the harpies they aren't currently in Willow Prairie where the basilisk was said to be

Oh, well then, that changes things considerably. I'd say Adrea should aim an icebolt at its haunch, the largest section of its legs, in an attempt to reduce its mobility. If we end up drawing its attention, use a blind spell and move out of its way once it can't see. If the blind spell is successful, tell everyone to go all out while its stunned.

Well the lizard doesn't seem too bright to be changing targets. Take direction if possible, prioritizing the harpies plans and safety (we told them about Veela so if that story included the fight they probably know how to direct us more effectively in a fight than we could direct them), followed by this other groups plans and safety, then our own plan if neither has an explicit plan. Prep an Ice Bolt for use if the lizard gets to close to the archer, piecing attacks seemed to draw it's attention before so that could be a good way to kite it around (and this is where I looked at the comments and realized Persona59523 and VigorousJazzHands were already suggesting this)

There seem to be a few unasked questions floating about in this comments section, so I might as well ask them and a few of my own.
Does Adrea know what this thing is? If it's susceptible to fire or ice magic? Are there any environmental factors we can use to make an educated guess as to whether this thing will be more resistant to heat or ice?

Sorry if this one was already answered somewhere. Is the list of spells we can cast static, to where the only spells that can be cast are from that list, dynamic to where we could try casting unknown spells, or somewhere in-between that just encourages creative uses of the spells we already know?

The Beast: Adrea doesn't know precisely what it is, but she's fairly confident that it's some kind of drake--though all the species she's heard of live in or around mountains so it's a little unusual to see one this far out. While they're tough, drakes are mundane creatures that should behave pretty predictably for a wild animal. She doesn't know of any particular weakness or resistance to either element.

Magic: The spells listed are the only ones we know how to cast, we can't improvise or attempt spells we haven't been taught how to cast(via spell scroll or instruction from a more skilled mage). They also can't be modified (for example "flame jet" that we know will always shoot a stream of fire in a straight line from where you're aiming. While you can adjust your aim while casting since it's continuous, it's impossible to make the stream curve or come out at an angle or anything like that), but there is some room to get a little creative with the effects as stated, like using a fire bolt to ignite something from a distance instead of as an attack.
