... You pause before you can blow out the lantern. Mira hefts herself carefully onto the foot of your bed, settling her stomach down before hiking her leg up.

“Mira?” you ask, looking at her inquisitively. “What are you doing?”

She stares at you, mid-step, the toes of her other leg just barely touching the wood floor.

“I’m gonna sleep.”

You point an unsteady finger across the room. “There’s another bed.”

“Uh-huh,” she says, then pouts. “Please, can I stay? I’ll just be curled up on top of the blanket down here. I won’t make too much noise and—and I’ll keep your legs warm!”


Some of you might have ended the previous installment of Another Inner World with this adorable scene. The mental image has been in my head for a while, so I'm glad to be able to share it.
