Greetings, it's finally here! The last part of the Paradise series (At least for now, I want to come back to it again sometime).

But that's not all, this part of the story now has an illustration! https://aryion.com/g4/view/778143

Ok, so did it glow inside Toothless for Luna as well? I'm guessing the lights inside Luna's belly are related to dragons keeping their young inside their bellies that you mentioned earlier, that Luna wanted to try with Toothless. And given that it did work, does that mean the dragon traffickers could see the other idiot?

To be completely honest, I hadn't thought about this yet. I think Toothless should probably have a similar feature since these two species are almost identical, maybe with the difference that his glow is slightly dimmer. So, the two morons could indeed see each other, just maybe not as clearly as Astrid and Hiccup. And the transporting of their young is a good idea (I think I wrote that this is how they transport live prey for their young, not the young themselves. Maybe my description was a bit confusing.), in this case the calming lighting inside would make sense. Good guess (and suggestion too).

I couldn't really remember the details on what dragon biology feature Luna wanted to exploit with Toothless (other than the typically assumed, even when not mentioned, dislocating jaw and the standard control of stomach acids), and remembered it had something to do with dragon young.

I assumed it was for carrying the young themselves because why would food need to see they're being digested, or are others in a belly, that much is probably assumed once you pass a dragon's maw until proven otherwise (like you were actually in the dragon's belly basket/crop for the past hour and are now being pushed into the belly proper, or are being let out because you were only caught so someone else can eat you). But saying that the lights have a calming effect I guess might make sense, but that could also be done with a pheromone. Why waist energy creating light in a completely enclosed space, for those who do not need it?

Yeah, pheromones would probably make more sense... But the prey calming thing was just Hiccup's theory. At this point, he hadn't seen any Fury babies yet, so it's not surprising that this theory wouldn't have crossed his mind first.

But hey, we're still talking about a fictional creature trait that I made up just to put Astrid and Hiccup in a slightly more "comfortable" environment, and I was at least trying to explain it in some way. But this isn't the point of the story, so I didn't think it through as much as I probably should have. But I'm not perfect, and neither is my story, unfortunately.

Something I'm just realizing is that most other HttyD content creators, for the ones that don't just have the dragons casually eat a family for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and mind night snack, they have humans as a dragon's favorite prey (because of taste, the struggle, how quickly they repopulate, and the fact that the humans see themselves on top so it's nice to remind them how many rungs down they really are), but willingly, yet sorrowfully, cut them out because they don't want to lose the new relationship they just forged with the humans of Berk, and only occasionally go back to old habits if the situation calls for it (I recall one story about Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, and Stormfly getting caught in a blizzard, getting separated while looking for a cave, the two humans getting found by dragon poachers, the dragons lagging behind finding the mate of their rider about to be killed, pounce and eat the brute only to realize that the human they saved was watching, being scared about their reaction, only to be surprised that the humans have not only come to terms with this revelation, but are actually highly aroused by it, and fuck when they find shelter).

But you on the other hand, yeah, the dragons ate people, but it was too much of a hassle, and only really done if the human was an asshole. So cutting them out of their diet wasn't a big deal.

I took as an example real predators and their hunting habits. In most cases, if they have a choice, they will choose prey that can't hurt them (which humans can, they often carry some sort of weapon, and smart and skilled predators are somehow aware of the danger), and is also worth the energy spent to hunt it down (most humans don't have much meat, compared to moose or even deer, for example).
Like tigers, for example. They usually avoid contact with humans, and will attack only when they feel threatened, or are starving and can't find better prey in time.

Well, the people of Berk (and the people in HttyD in general) for the most part definitely have a fair amount of meat on them so getting a score would still be pretty valuable, as for actually getting it... well while the tiger example is fairly appropriate, a tiger that can fly and shoot fire from its mouth would be significantly more dangerous and able to pull of and take advantage of a surprise attack than a regular tiger, so I don't think there would be that much of a difference between jumping a deer, or jumping a human. Now the weapons on the other hand, that has the potential of actually being a problem, it would turn every hunt into a game of who strikes first, and while dragons can do an extremely good job at ensuring that they are the ones who get it, the problem becomes that one time they do miss, or the one time it turns out there was 1 or 2 other humans there that you didn't see that would cause everything to go down hill, and hunting humans on the regular would ensure that they traveled in groups of 3 or more. So average rewards, low risk of failure, major problems if they do fail is how I see a dragon working it out, making the taste, and/or struggling post swallowing, and/or the thrill of the hunt being what drives the dragon to eat people.
