A wayward wolf is chased down by a hungry dragon, ducking into a narrow cave opening in the hopes of finding safety. Alas, he discovers too late the cave ends mere meters from the entrance, hardly bigger than a washroom. To his horror, he turns to discover the mouth of this little cave was now occupied by another, literal mouth- that of the dragon. Trying to be as silent as possible, the wolf flattens himself against the farthest wall of the cave as the dragon's long, python-like tongue slithers from its maw in search of a tasty morsel. He flinches briefly when he feels the tongue slide up along his shin, but breathes a sigh of relief to find the dragon's tongue only barely reaches him, not having enough reach or leverage to snag any part of him and send the wolf to his digestive doom.
The wolf now hopes that perhaps the dragon will eventually give up, look for an easier meal and give him a chance at escape. That hope slowly faded as the dragon spoke...

A bit different from my usual stuff, being largely dialogue-focused. I like writing taunting, teasing predator dialogue though I haven't really incorporated it into my work much until now.

This is a brilliant scene. I love the idea of the dragon not being able to reach its snack just yet. But all those eloquent teases might just convince the prey to step forwards and face his fate.
