Izanami is one of the initial antagonists in Deeper, who eventually aids Harmon in returning to Dunwich and volunteers to shelter Tony in her home. Born and raised in Okinawa Japan, not much is known of her family history. The earliest hint of her ventrimancy is from when she was only 13, when Harmon apparently saved her from being kidnapped. Although she seemed helpless at the time, she herself claims that she had actually intended to eat her would be abductors.

Like all ventrimancers in the story, Izanami has the ability to devour people with her belly button. Her navel can stretch open wide enough to swallow a large man and her belly can hold her prey inside a pocket dimension so that her outward appearance shows no sign of the body trapped within. She is physically stronger than most men and can increase her strength almost exponentially depending on how many victims she has absorbed in a period of time. As one of the more powerful ventrimancers revealed thus far, her avatar within Tenebrosa Palus is fully formed and much larger than most, standing well over twenty feet tall. Though it lacks private parts as do all avatar forms, hers possesses the same physical features as her earthly body, with long silky black hair, dark eyes and full lips. Her avatar can also move through the land of Ventrivoroth with or without prey inside of her belly, although the amount of time depends upon how much energy she has stored up. She can also carry prey within her belly without draining it severely, since years of practice has given her better control. She is one of only a handful of current ventrimancers who can freely transport people in and out of Tenebrosa Palus.

Izanami is a soft spoken, kind and cheerful sort of person who enjoys helping her community. She has a strong sense of justice, as evidenced by her dislike of the gangs that threaten Okinawa. She has no qualms about killing when she feels it necessary and willingly swallows, holds and absorbs those whom she feels deserve it. Still, she does have a softer, more playful side that comes out around those she likes. She is attracted to Harmon, because of his rugged appearance and muscular body as well as his determination. When she sucks him into her belly, she quite literally treats the event like love making. On the other hand, she is also drawn to Tony in a different way. She finds the younger boy to be adorably cute and his nervousness makes her want to squeeze him like a teddy bear (except she wants to squeeze his face into her belly button). She loves to tease him by flirting and flaunting her stomach around him by dancing close to him or simply playing tricks to get him close enough for a deep belly kiss.
