Rachel was given her powers by her new substitute teacher, Chelsey Irons. Although she felt uncomfortable with the idea at first, her obsession with a television show about two hot guys fighting all sorts of supernatural monsters made her desperate to experience something out of the ordinary. At first, the harmless rituals, involving her teacher painting symbols on her stomach and chanting from a book were fun. The belly dancing classes were fun too and she found that she was picking up the techniques faster than her prettier, more confident class mates. It felt like more of a game, until she began to experience the hunger that came like a deep lusting pull from down inside her belly.

She found herself looking at boys differently than she had before. They weren't just cute, or hot but...something more. When she fantasized about making out with a guy, she now wondered if they would kiss her neck, then her chest and then her belly...and then her navel. She wondered if they might kiss her navel hard and push their nose inside and that perhaps she could grab hold of them and squeeze them against her until they began to sink into her flesh...

After her teacher ate her brother, Rachel knew that whatever they were doing was wrong. She fought with her newborn desires until at last, Chelsey decided it was time for her and all of her classmates to experience the real thing. She had almost decided not to. After seeing the other girls suck Tony into their bellies, their navels stretching impossibly wide as his body vanished into them without a trace, she was afraid. Then...the hunger took over and she asked for her teacher's help. Mrs. Irons held the boy as his feet began to sink down into her belly as her navel stretched open so easily. He slid down, down into her body and she could feel him moving inside of her, so deep down inside. Once it was over and he was trapped, she could have screamed her ecstasy to the sky, but she somehow found herself again and released him away from the others. Afterall, she needed his help.

Rachel appears in Deeper as another ventrimancer seeking to stop the madness taking over Dunwich. She is a sweet girl and was very shy and introverted until she received her power. As she grows into her ventrimancy, she becomes bolder and more independent, driven towards her goal. She didn't like Tony at first, although she did think he was cute, and she certainly wanted him in her belly. After getting to know him a bit and mostly from his simple act of trusting her and volunteering to help find her brother, she has grown somewhat more attached to him.

Rachel is a reluctant predator, but as her power grows, her resistance to temptation weakens. Will she find her brother and hold onto her humanity, or will she lose herself to desire and devour those closest to her?
