The OBAM Initiative:
A secret society that split off from the Initiative many years ago, long before the Outbreak Initiatives doomed expedition to the skies caused them to change their name to ‘The Clear Skies Initiative’, The Outbreak By Any Means Initiative formed under the same general principle of the Outbreak Initiative, except, where Outbreak drew the line at vore and magic, OBAM sought to understand The World Withins more unnatural forces in the hope of finding a way out through those means.
It is because of their embrace of subjects considered taboo in the Initiative that they were excommunicated, although, that was all in the past, and now, many centuries later, the two often engage in covert dealings, with The Clear Skies Initiatives forces often making use of technologies that could only have been created through magical testing, such as portable magic dampening devices.
Despite these dealings however, OBAM is under excommunication, and as such, must look to ‘less than ethical’ sources for their testing, aside from the usual ‘kidnapping people and running tests on them’ approach however, scientists in OBAM have adopted another method of testing, mainly used in the final stages of their products developments, this method involves handing off prototypes to private citizens in The Middenlands or The Papal Order, often those with an agenda, and allowing these people to do the testing for them, if the tests go disastrously wrong, oh well, it’s not like they were Initiative citizens.
Another result of their underground nature is that of OBAM’s structure, because they must remain in the shadows, they tend to operate in ‘cells’, these cells often take the form of secret laboratories that are scattered across the Initiatives lands, and very little communication between the cells exists.
Finally, they are known to have a fierce rivalry with The Initiatives other major secret society, The Mechanist Order, a human purist, techno-supremacist group who believe that the flesh is weak, and that humanity can only grow by replacing their weaknesses with the strength and certainty of steel.
