Twas the night before Christmas,
and all through the caves,
not a creature did stir,
not even the slaves...

I feel like this is a bit rushed but I'm happy with it.

LORE BYTE!
Hemrt, The Roaming City:
Of the many undercities that dot the Under-Empire, the underground tunnel network that spans beneath The World Within, Hemrt is perhaps the most unique.
Built on the back of a monstrous crustacean that roams the tunnels and periodically digs new ones, the people of Hemrt make their homes in large caves hollowed out in the crabs chitin shell that are kept at a comfortable temperature by the colossal crustaceans internal body heat.
The crab itself, also called Hemrt, is extremely old, older than the Brachyuran states and possibly even older than the Pagan gods, of the few scholars who are aware of the existence of the Under-Empire, most agree that Hemrt, based on the fact that it is constantly digging new tunnels, may in fact be responsible for the existence of the underground network of caves in the first place.
Interestingly, despite its age, the Pagan God who serves as the cities patron, Desiree, may have actually discovered a way to control the beast, as it is said that her temple, which lies at the beasts brain stem, houses a device built into her throne which allows the goddess to manipulate Hemrt’s movements and steer its path.
Like all major Undercities, Hemrt is governed partly by a local living god and partly by a ruling great house, the house that controls Hemrt, Kanseer, is known for its high number of sorcerers and has made no secret of the fact that it greatly values the city, seeing it as a prime subject through which to learn more about the intricate but poorly understood nature of magick in The World Within.
