“You owe Katrina nothing further, my dear,” Seraphina explained for Gwendolyn’s benefit, her voice steady and resolute. "You gave her your trust, and she broke it into a million pieces with her cruel joke. What is it that you could talk to her about now?"

Gwendolyn stared at Seraphina's unwavering gaze for a few seconds, feeling the weight of the rattlesnake's words sinking in.

The bartender's eyes held a mix of sympathy and firmness, as if urging Gwendolyn to make a different choice.

Finally, Gwendolyn took a deep breath, before reaching out and silencing her phone, ignoring the notifications that kept on coming.

“That's the spirit, my dear. You deserve to be with someone who cares. Someone who knows how much you’re worth.” Seraphina smiled, a sense of pride evident in her eyes.
